ADOPTED

ABBY

Stunning Abby just knocks our socks off. Just one year old, this beautiful, Black and Tan German Shepherd was found as a city stray in Manhattan, and brought to NYCACC. Our first look at Abby was quite pitiful, as she was suffering from an eye injury. We welcomed her into our rescue immediately, and treated her eye. She is in tip top shape now, with some vision loss that has not put a damper on her panache.

Abby is a blissfully delightful character that will brighten up any home. She is full of the love and affection that we want to see in a family dog. Abby loves everyone, and would not play favorites in a big family.

As a one year old older puppy, Abby is right at the age at which training is key, especially for a powerful large breed dog. Abby is a high energy, active girl, with that puppy "spaz" quality that she will no doubt mature beyond in the next year. She needs an active lifestyle, and a good deal of exercise and focussed playtime to create a calm, relaxed mind and body ready to accept obedience commands.

Abby has developed beautifully, and now knows most of her basic commands. She is a dream to train, is very eager to please, and responds well to all positive reinforcement techniques. She is praise and treat motivated, so adopters will be able to continue our work easily. Abby could easily go on to achieve her certification in Canine Good Citizenship, if adopters persevere.

Abby would be a good fit for an active single or couple, who enjoy the outdoors and can provide for a fair amount of exercise. She could also join an active family with older children, but toddlers will amp her up and entice her to knock them down! She has blended in with a diverse dog pack, so she could join a multi-dog home, and she is so sweet that she may be a good fit for cats.

Abby has decent manners that she sometimes forgets, and is mostly housetrained, and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during Abby's transition to a new home. She is in excellent health, and weighs 50 pounds. She could easily get up to 60 pounds and still be at a healthy weight. Abby has been spayed and has had routine vaccinations and health screenings. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
