ANNABELLA

Our darling Ingenue, Annabella, is a real sweetheart, in need of a firm hand and a structured lifestyle. She came to us recently from a large Animal Control Facility where, just 11 months old, this youngster had become a homeless stray. She charmed everyone, from the doggie cops to the vet staff and many volunteers in between. We are thrilled to have her with us.

Shelter staff suggest that Annabella is a Foxhound, perhaps mixed with Smooth Coat Collie. She is a medium sized dog, weighing 50 pounds, and has a lean, sleek physique. Her slightly elongated muzzle and half mast ears favor the Collie look, but she has the characteristic tri coloring pattern, and tail, of the American Foxhound. Annabella's easy-to-maintain coat is in great shape, and has a lustrous shine.

Annabella's breed mix of hunter/herder hardwires her to a work ethic that should be channeled into exercise and obedience training. She is a fantastic outdoor dog, and loves to walk, run or hike, and participate in outdoor adventures. Annabella could easily join an active adult home, and would thrive in a bustling household where she is the center of attention. As an older puppy, many of Annabella's developmental cues were missed during her time as a stray. Her new family will need to be prepared to establish house rules and maintain discipline. In the midst of chaos, Annabella will act up, but in an environment of calm and structure, she is an absolute dream.

Annabella still has her puppy mojo. Her obedience training is coming along well, and she knows most of her commands, but Adopters will need to prepare for the antics of an older puppy. It is essential to challenge Annabella in both mind and body so that she maintains an even keel. If she becomes bored and frustrated, she can become mischievious. Everyone in her new home needs to be on the same page about the importance of exercise and obedience training, and be willing to provide the consistent structure and discipline that an older puppy needs. Her house manners are good, but there may be that inevitable snagged shoe or trash can treasure hunt, while Annabella matures over the next few months.

Annabella is extremely good natured, and could easily join a multi-dog home. She loves people and has none of the stranger danger that plagues some rescue dogs. She is a natural Canine Good Citizen, who can move through the human world with ease and grace. Adopters should be able to have her CGC certified in a short while. She has grasped her obedience commands and loves the training process.

Annabella is house trained and crate trained, but adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
