ANNIE and SWEETIE PIE

Our darling Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mixes have some kinda story to tell, but all we can do is piece together the details of their sad tale. Annie and Sweetie Pie were found roaming the streets together in a Hurricane Sandy Disaster Zone. From first meeting they appeared to be quite bonded, which suggests that they were housemates in an owner's home.

Sweetie Pie

When we saw their shelter mugshots, we were moved by these two girls whose beauty was disguised under layers of matted, dreadlocked fur. Initial vet exams revealed evidence of long term neglect. Only six years old, Annie and Sweetie Pie were overweight, with severe dental issues and toenails so long that they had curled under and grown into the pad, causing painful abscesses. So the vet evidence suggests lacklustre ownership...a clueless human who paid little attention to diet and grooming. Somehow, during the hurricane, these girls flew the coop and went searching for a new life.

Annie

They have found it with us. We have really enjoyed the rehab process on Annie and Sweetie Pie. The first order of business was a proper grooming, and we were were tickled to see such sweet, expressive faces under all that hair! Next stop the vet! Both were treated for a bit of kennel cough, as well as ear and foot pad infections. Also, they were spayed and had dental work done, including several extractions. Pre-surgical blood work has been done and all levels were within normal limits, suggesting that there are no underlying health concerns. Now both the girls are in tip top shape and have been cleared for adoption.

Despite all the poking and prodding that these girls have been through, their spirits are soaring. Annie is the friendlier and more outgoing of the two, while Sweetie Pie takes longer to warm up. Sweetie seems to be a bit protective of Annie, suggesting that they may be siblings. We have worked on socializing them separately, so that they could be adopted together or separately. Both could easily join a multi-dog home or coexist nicely with cats. As a pair, we'd steer clear of small kids, but if adopted separately, Annie would enjoy kid company. If adopted alone, Sweetie Pie would do best with experienced dog owners who live a quiet, relaxed lifestyle.

Both Annie and Sweetie Pie have excellent housemanners and enjoy relaxing by the fire more than vigorous exercise, but a few leisurely leash walks a day would be required as part of their exercise regimen! Otherwise, they are fantastic house companions for laidback adopters who live a quiet, stress free lifestyle. In this sort of environment, the girls will blossom beautifully. These adorable girls deserve a shot at a better life. Adopters will need to focus on diet, nutrition and moderate exercise to help them loose a few pounds and maintain good health going forward. Their lovely coats will require professional grooming at least two or three times a year.

Annie and Sweetie Pie are in excellent health and have been spayed. They have been vaccinated for: rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella. They are microchipped and de-wormed, and have tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
