ADOPTED

APPLEMINT

Applemint is a spectacular creature, brimming with pride, confidence and panache. Three years old, she came to us from an overcrowded Animal Control Facility, after spending some time on the city streets as a stray. Applemint was pulled from the adoption program after she caught the custonary shelter "cold," and was greenlighted for euthanasia. We were called after another rescue group backed out on her.

Applemint displayed the typical stress that plagues shelter dogs as they adapt to the rescue process. She tested slightly nervous, but quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite. She has blended beautifully into her bustling foster home, and a delightful, playful personality has emerged.

Applemint is a medium sized dog, on the petite side. She is an extremely manageable 28 pounds, and is a good choice for the apartment dweller, who prefers large dogs, but is limited by size restrictions. We believe her to be an an interesting mix of Australian Shepherd and Labrador Retriever. Applemint has a medium length, lush, blue-black coat, with a slight fringe to it. She has petite white socks. And then, there's that irreverent, zig zag white stripe that marks her chest, as if to scream, "I'm Fabulous"!

Applemint would be the ideal choice for an active single or couple, who have some experience with rescue dogs. A personality match will be key in her case, because she is a true Alpha Diva, who needs strong leadership and an adopter willing to pursue her obedience work and make the proper correction, when needed. Applemint would most likely run roughshod over small children and cats, but she'd fit in nicely to a balanced, multi-dog household, with well trained, calm dogs.

Exercise and obedience work should be key components in Applemint's lifestyle. She loves the outdoors, and as a probable mix of herding and gun dog breeds, Applemint needs an active lifee, with lots of action or outdoor adventures that challenge her physically and mentally. She could be an Agility or Obedience Trial Champion, and has already begun to grasp the beginning stage of the Canine Good Citizenship program. Applemint has demonstrated unbelievable potential. Adopters could easily get her ready to pass the exam in no time at all.

Applemint has good house manners, rides well in the car, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should have appropriate expectations of rescue dogs, whose house training mojo has been interrupted during the rescue process. Folks should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident as a Applemint adjusts to the new potty routine.

Applemint is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
