APPLE PIE

Our Apple Pie just makes us giggle. She reminds us of a cartoon character that could be cast as Olive Oyl's pooch in a Popeye cartoon. Whoever thought up this breed blend of Beagle and Italian Greyhound has a heck of a funny bone.

Apple Pie came to us from Big City Animal Control, where she had been brought in by folks claiming to have found her in their yard. She was assigned stray status, and subjected to the obligatory 14 day stray hold, during which she caught a dose of kennel cough. Shelter staff had no success in locating Apple Pie's owners, so at the end of her hold, she came to us for R and R.

Apple Pie came into her own quickly in foster care, and her comical personality began to emerge. Weighing 17 pounds, this four year old has distinctive qualities of both Hound breeds, the Beagle, and the Italian Greyhound, and the mix creates some pretty funny quirks. Apple Pie has the focus and tenacity of the down to earth, scent driven Beagle, and bears a stern facial expression that means business. Mixed into her DNA is some of the athletic whimsy of the IG, as well as a cat-like love of high places. She enjoys sleeping on the high backs of chairs and sofas, and will snuggle in the crook of your neck for a leisurely afternoon nap.

Apple Pie is an extremely loving and friendly girl, with her people, but like an IG, she will also be slightly suspicious of strangers, and hesitant to approach until she has assessed their intentions. When she is spooked, up comes the unmistakable Beagle "ballyhoo" as a stern warning. She tends to bark very little, and then, only when she has something important to say.

Apple Pie would be a great choice for an active single or couple, who enjoy a walk or run each day. She's not an overly energetic dog, but does need opportunity to indulge her scent and sight Hound instincts with nature's inspirations. Otherwise, Apple Pie is a fantastic companion and lap dog. She bonds quickly, and absolutely adores her people. She prefers adult company, and could join a multi-dog household, with another laid back, calm dog. She would most likely be fine with cats, with proper introduction.

Apple Pie has great housemanners and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot the occasional accident of a rescue dog, who has been through some dramatic life changes. Apple Pie is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Apple Pie, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info.
