ADOPTED

BANJO

Our Banjo is a lovable scamp with a wee streak of nervous bravado that makes him think he's much larger than he is. Banjo came to us with his brother, Bernie, and, clearly, Banjo thought he was boss dog. The two pint size tourists were snatched up by City Animal Control, while meandering the City streets in search of their next meal.

After a short stint in a harsh shelter environment, Banjo had garnered excellent behavior evaluations, even during his initial vet exam. He tolerated all handling and seemed to bask in human attention. Banjo made many friends among staff and volunteers, and eventually came to our attention. We were pleased to have Banjo and Bernie join our rescue.

Banjo is chock full of Chihuahua charm, and would be a great choice for an active adult single or couple with experience meeting the needs of small dogs. Banjo needs an assertive, experienced adopter to keep his bossy nature in check, so he is not the best companion for unpredictable toddlers, but would do well in a home with older kids and other dogs. We have not had him around cats, but his tenacious Chihuahua nature would probably annoy them.

Seven years old, Banjo is past the puppy mayhem stage, but still requires some good exercise, at least two to three brisk leash walks daily. He is a tiny boy, weighing only 9 pounds, yet he has a muscular, sturdy structure, and pretty yellow and white markings. Banjo loves to play, but also likes to curl up in his person's lap for TV or book time.

Banjo has great house manners and is house trained and crate trained. He is small enough to travel anywhere, and behaves well in public.

Banjo is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
