ADOPTED

BEATRICE

Our fabulous Queen Beatrice is a force of nature. This zaftig Beauty came to us from a large animal control facility, where her owner had abandoned her, and Bea was not at all pleased with the substandard accommodations. The overwhelming chaos of shelter life has a way of bringing out the worst fears in owner surrender dogs. Bea thought she was going for a big car ride, and BAM, she was in jail!

Only three years old, Bea was heading toward the Rainbow Bridge, when we stumbled across her glamour mugshot on the daily kill list, and it prompted our invitation to join our rescue. Indeed, we are crazy for Hounds, but Bea is a standout. She is a purebred Beagle, with all the stubborn tenacity that Beagle lovers relish.

Bea is a big, strong girl, about 30 pounds. She came to us tipping the scales at 36 pounds, and it was clear when we first met her, that she had been on the LOVE diet, that is, the "one bite for me, one bite for you" plan that so many devoted dog owners use to love their dogs into obesity and premature ill health.

Bea is a gluttonous gourmand, to be sure. She loves her food, and is not gracious about sharing, but she can always be tempted by the trade of a high value goodie. This deleterious quality would rule out Bea for a family, in which small children might wish to interfere with Queen Bea's supper.

Instead, Bea would be a one and a million companion for a Beagle loving, active single or couple, who can provide the exercise and leadership that this larger than life, Alpha Diva needs to thrive. Bea is a high energy gal and needs a good amount of exercise. She loves her walks, but she is as nosy as every Beagle can be, and tends to follow her well honed schnozz. She would benefit tremendously from proper neckwear, like the Herm Sprenger prong collar, or Halti Lead, which will allow her adopter to redirect her attention on the brisk excercise pace. If she finds herself on the end of a flexi lead, Bea will zig zag her adopters to New Orleans and back!

Bea is a real outdoors dog. She would be the ideal jogging or hiking companion, and she wowed us with her Esther Williams impersonation at our summer swim program. Bea loves to be outside doing whatever, but she won't be ignored! If she's left alone hours on end in a fenced in yard, Bea will ballyhoo like a buffalo after a suckerpunch. Inside the home, Bea has excellent house manners. She is housetrained, and crate trained. As a three year old adult dog, Bea can be alone during the workday, and will nap peacefully, provided she's had a brisk walk before.

Bea needs a personality match. Her adopters should have a wild sense of humor, and be certifiably Beagle Crazy! Bea will walk all over the taciturn, reserved adopter, who will shy away from a timely correction or obedience class. Bea's person(s) should live life out loud, and have a fearless zeal, as well as an interest in Leadership and Obedience training. Bea has performed beautifully during her Canine Good Citizen training and knows her obedience sequence. Adopters should continue her on this course, because, if Bea is allowed to rule the roost, then the roost will be extravagantly stocked with prime rib and filet mignon.

Bea could join a multi-dog home, but she will insist on Queen Bea status, so adopters will have to be on their game and run a tight ship dog pack. Bea would most likely boss cats far beyond their comfort level.

Bea as been spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Bea, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info.
