BLONDIE

Four years old, darling Blondie came to us from the cold, harsh city pound, where she spent some time after having been snagged as a stray. She was pretty distressed looking with her dirty coat and gaunt expression. It appeared that Blondie hadn't had a good meal in a while.

Blondie was billed as a "Chihuahua" mix, and we see the Chihuahua coloring and markings. However, weighing in at 12 pounds, Blondie has a stocky, muscular build, and high energy level, so we suspect a healthy dose of Jack Russell Terrier. Blondie has the full throttle Terrier personality that JRT folks love.

Blondie did not have an easy time of it at the shelter. She was frightened and mistrustful of human touch, particularly during her vet exam. Initially she did not endear herself to shelter staff, but when we met her, we figured she had a whopping case if "Shelteritis," which usually wears off once a dog exits the premises and settles into foster care.

Blondie has decompressed nicely! She has transformed into a pint sized dynamo who adores all human attention.....once she decides that the humans pass muster. She is an opinionated little squirt at first, and gives off quite the Diva vibe, but then appears to want nothing more than heaps of human attention lavished on her.

Blondie is extraordinarily affectionate, and would be a superb companion for the active single or couple, who adore their high energy Petite Divas. Blondie will bond to her people quickly, but will need adopters to be patient and allow her to come to them in her own time. Also, adopters must be willing to instruct friends, family and strangers to give Blondie her space when meeting.

Blondie can be an attention hog and is not fond of sharing her people with other dogs. She will likely scrap over items like toys and treats, so we think she would do well as an only dog. She has had no formal obedience work beyond what we have started in foster care, but she has picked up the basics nicely.

Blondie is eager to please and very praise motivated, so she is an excellent candidate for leadership training. Blondie needs an assertive adopter who is willing to lead her toward Canine Good Citizenship. She needs some work on basic manners and socialization with other dogs. It doesn't appear that Blondie has had much contact with other dogs and her pack manners are lacking. We have not had her around cats, but that Terrier vibe in her would lead to feline trouble.

Blondie would be an appropriate companion for the seasoned adult Terrier enthusiast, who enjoys the rescue and training process. We'd like to avoid small children because Blondie needs consistent, experienced handling.

Blondie is in excellent health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella and canine influenza. She has been microchipped and de-wormed and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
