ADOPTED

BOONE

Our handsome boy, Boone is that exceptional, all around family dog, a rarity in Rescue. Boone loves absolutely everybody, and has not flinched at all during a rescue process that leaves lesser dogs rattled. We've been trying to piece together our Boone's backstory, and here's what we think we know: Boone's siblings and dam were part of a backyard breeding operation that went belly-up. Their irresponsible owner turned the entire pack over to a big city kill shelter, claiming that they were strays found in a park. Sometimes folks make up stories to avoid paying the shelter's owner surrender fees.

And so we took Boone, and his Mama, Tallulah, into our rescue, because we're more than a little Beagle crazy these days. From the beginning, Boone has been an absolute charmer. He is so full of life and personality, and, just two years old, he has a bit of the puppy Mojo going on. Boone is like a kid in a candy shop, soaking up new experiences with sheer glee. He is a super dog who would do well in any type of environment.

Boone appears to be a pure bred Beagle, and is every bit the Scent Hound. He is a medium sized dog, weighing a lean, healthy 20 pounds. His short, flat coat is largely reddish chocolate, with white markings, and he has striking, translucent, light hazel eyes. Boone has a mischievious twinkle in his eyes, and he always looks like he's flashing a giant smile.

Boone was a very good boy with our vet.

Boone is a very happy-go-lucky guy, and would be a great addition to an active family with older, dog savvy kids. He is extremely friendly and will give everyone in the family equal attention. Boone is not one to play favorites, and he is very stranger friendly. He could also join an active single or couple, capable of providing at least one or two leisurely leash walks, during which Boone can meander and stop to smell the "roses." Boone is not ultra-high energy, but if he becomes bored, he can get into mischief. Scent hounds are extremely easy to manage, we think, because the leisurely walk that engages their senses, provides much needed mental and physical exercise.

Boone would benefit greatly from ongoing obedience training, which is helpful in providing additional mental stimulation. Boone is learning his commands, although he can become distracted easily, but fortunately he is treat motivated. He responds well to Positive Reinforcement and Leadership techniques, and seems to enjoy his training sessions. He seems to be a confident little boy, ready and willing to work.

Boone has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and Canine Flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
