BRUCE

Our big boy, Bruce, is a calm, laid back gentleman. He has gone through the rescue process with a quizzical, "Why am I here?" expression, which has revealed a longing to connect to his own person and relax in his own home.

There is not too much history to share on Bruce, who was picked up as a city stray in a busy urban area on the "wrong side of the tracks." He came to us recently, after we received a plea from our shelter contacts who feared that Bruce would wind up at risk for euthanasia once he contracted kennel cough.

Shelter vets peg Bruce as a young adult, about 3 to 5 years old, based on the usual criteria of eyes, teeth and general energy level. As an adult dog, Bruce is well past the frustrating puppy years and has good house manners.

Bruce is a beautiful mix of Rottweiler and German Shepherd, both noble breeds known for their love and protection of family. Bruce would make a devoted family dog, for large breed enthusiasts, who have some rescue dog experience. Bruce received excellent behavior evaluations, and would do well in a moderately active family with older kids, who are used to interacting with powerful dogs.

Bruce has been a pretty congenial pack member, and could easily join a multi-dog home, with other calm, well socialized dogs. We have not had him around cats, but he is a good natured soul, who would most likely leave them be.

Bruce has grasped some basic obedience commands, but adopters will need to continue him on an obedience and leadership regimen to reinforce Canine Good Citizenship. He is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should be prepared to fine tune good potty habits, since Bruce is recently neutered.

Bruce is in excellent health and neutered. He is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella and canine influenza. He has been microchipped and de-wormed and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
