BUGSY

This adorable miniature American Eskimo Dog came to us last October, and was absolutely the worst case of neglect and owner stupidity, that we've seen in our 18-year rescue career. We were collectively gobsmacked when Bugsy's disabled Owner's family dropped him off, so perplexed by the persistent flea problem that they just couldn't seem to get under control.

Fleas???? They have to be the "pimple on the cow's behind" of problems, when it comes to dog care. Any number of vet recommended products would have saved this dog years of misery. This poor boy had Generations upon Generations of fleas roaming freely through his scant coat, and then, to add insult to injury, his name, seriously, is "Bugsy".

The first order of business was to tackle the fleas. A simple dose of Capstar eradicated the legions of pests within 30 minutes. Then a series of oatmeal baths and a course of antibiotics calmed the skin inflammation. The immediate change in diet to a nutrient dense, grainfree kibble began to show some hair regrowth. We added a forkfull of canned Sockeye salmon and a vitamin to his daily routine, and voila! Six months later, Bugsy is at the peak of health, has gained 6 pounds, and has a full gorgeous Eskie coat, complete with luxurious pantaloons.

At 16 pounds, Bugsy is a tiny miniature American Eskimo. He is at an ideal weight now, and his full coat gives him the appearance of a larger Eskie. He had not been socialized very well in his former home, no surprise, but has adapted beautifully to our hectic, multi-dog foster home. Still, Bugsy would prefer a calm environment, in which he can bond one to one with his loving person. Bugsy is a sweet little guy who really needs loving and knowledgeable Eskie people for the second act of his life.

Bugsy would be the ideal companion dog to a laid back single or couple, who love that Eskie spirit. Bugsy is a vibrant dog, lively and loving, but he is relatively calm for an Eskie. He could easily join a home with another canine or feline housemate, and may well be the ideal companion for a senior dog who may have lost his housemate and is feeling lonely. We think that an adult home is best for Bugsy; small children may overpower him.

Bugsy has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot a few accidents during his transition to a new routine. He is in excellent health, has been neutered. His preoperative blood work was normal and serves as an important baseline going forward. His skin and coat are in A-1 shape, and he has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
