CARMELLO

Our Carmello is a sage old soul with a big presence! This stately 8 year old Beagle is passionate about life, love, and food....and he has the behind to prove it. Our lover boy is a bit of a porker, most likely the effect of an overindulgent owner who didn't have a clue about a healthy canine diet.

Carmello came to us from an overcrowded Animal Control facility, where his owners had left him to fend for himself. No particular reason was given for the treachery, but Carmello was highly annoyed with the change of scenery and substandard diet.

He came to us shortly thereafter, battling a whopping cold, and after a few weeks of TLC in foster care, he began to feel like his old dandy self. Carmello has been a treat to foster. His personality is larger than life, and he is loaded with charm from floppy ear to dew claw.

As a scent hound, Carmello is fascinated by the vast array of smells in the world, but nothing hypnotizes him like food. He can be in a deep sleep on the sofa, snoring like a canine Ralph Kramden, only to spring alert at the intoxicating aroma of his foster mom's Jenny Craig lunch in the microwave. Carmello is a shameless beggar....and not much of a gourmand.

Carmello is a fantastic house and travel companion and has great manners. He loves people and will instantly bond to anyone sportin' a Cheeto. We'd say that Carmello has a genial disposition and likes human and canine companionship.

Carmello could easily join a multi-dog home, as he has blended in well with a diverse pack of foster dogs. He navigates effortlessly to the front of the pack without drawing any canine wrath. While he seems extremely food motivated, he has not demonstrated food aggression.

Carmello would be the ideal choice for a moderately active single, couple or family with older kid, who could commit to a couple of leisurely leash walks each day. Carmello does need a reasonable, light, exercise program to offset his preference for relaxing by the fire.

Overall, Carmello has great house manners and is house trained. Adopters should expect and forgive the occasional accident that may occur during his transition. As an adult dog, he has no puppy destruction issues, and we have not used a crate during his time in foster care. Carmello can easily be left loose and alone at home during the work day.

Carmello is in good health, although slightly overweight at 28 pounds. He has slimmed down during foster care as he transitioned to a healthy diet rich in quality protein and omega fats. Adopters should continue him on this regimen and not allow his weight to escalate.

Carmello is neutered, vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He is microchipped and de-wormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
