CHESTER

Chester reminds me of the Cowardly Lion of OZ, with his flowing blond locks and inimitable charm. This stunning Cocker Spaniel has an opinion about everything and expresses himself with lots of panache. Only 6 years old, Chester's owner gave up on him, citing personal problems, and he was surrendered to a bustling animal control facility where he took some time to figure out what had happened to so drastically screw up his life. Chester made alot of friends at the shelter, and quickly became a volunteer favorite. In fact, he won over another rescue group, who invited him to join their foster program, only to back out at the last moment. So, we stepped up for Chester, to sooth the sting of this double rejection!

Chester is no worse for the wear after his shelter experience, although, clearly, he was happy to be anywhere else, and grateful for better chow. Chester lost a couple of pounds during his stay, and has slimmed down nicely from 34 to 32 pounds. He is a solidly built boy, very food oriented and will overeat if allowed to free feed. Chester is one dog who will NOT do well on the "one bite for me, one bite for you" diet.

Chester's personality is outgoing and amiable. He is friendly to everybody he meets, and genuinely loves attention and praise. He is not shy about pushing his way to the front of the pack for treats and belly rubs. He has bonded quickly to his foster mom and absolutely refuses to be ignored! Its hard to leave Chester behind, because he has such a profound pout.

Sometimes the shock of abandonment produces separation anxiety in shelter dogs, and while Chester's case is not severe or destructive, he will guilt trip his adopters into taking him along. And so, Chester has become our constant travel companion and is a pleasure to have around. He is an extraordinarily well behaved, and calm car passenger.

Chester could join just about any type home, with savvy dog folks, who enjoy the Cocker Spaniel Quixotic personality. While he has a sweet nature, Chester is a bossy boy, who is quite used to getting his own way. Solid Alpha leadership, and establishing effective house rules is essential from the get go, or Chester will promote himself to CEO.

Chester is an active dog, but probably leans more toward couch potato than athlete. Chester would enjoy one or two leisurely leash walks each day, followed by "raviolis and a nap". Just kidding, don't indulge Chester's food cravings. Chester would be happy in a home with older kids, and could coexist nicely with other dogs and cats. He has excellent house manners and is housetrained and crate trained, although adopters will forgive the occasional accident as Chester adjusts to new routines.

He is in excellent health and has just been neutered. Chester had a full blood panel performed and all levels were within normal limits. He has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He is microchipped and de-wormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
