CLIPPER

Our Clipper is a spectacular looking red Miniature Pinscher, who exemplifies the best of this spirited and feisty breed. Min Pins have been one of our favorite breeds for years, and Clipper is one in a million. Just 4 years old, this proud King of the Toys was found by Animal Control Officers meandering about a large city park on a sunny spring day.

Clipper was promptly escorted to the nearest City Shelter where he waited patiently for his loving family to come for him. Shelter staff located a microchip in Clipper, but the lapsed registration made the process of tracing his owner impossible. Nonetheless, due process requires that the owners listed had to be notified by snail mail...sadly nobody responded.

Clipper sat in limbo for 14 days, until his stray hold expired, and during that time, he caught kennel cough, and was excluded from the Shelter adoption program and fast tracked to the euthanasia list. We jumped at the chance to bring Clipper into our rescue, so that we could treat him for a nasty cold and prepare him for a great new life. Now he is 100 percent and ready to meet his new family.

Clipper is a sturdy, robust boy, weighing nearly 16 pounds. He has large dog presence, and yet is easy to handle on lead. He is full of confidence, and like most Min Pins, Clipper needs an experienced handler who will earn his respect with calm, assertive energy, rather than one who will dress him in a pee wee sized Harley Davidson jacket! That's not to say that Clipper won't need a winter wardrobe to protect him from the harsh elements, but he will behave himself better if he knows who's boss from the get go.

Min Pins were developed and bred as working dogs, who were in charge of controlling the vermin population on working farms. Clipper is quintessential Min Pin: he loves the outdoors and thrills to the call of the wild. His high energy level would make him the ideal running, walking or hiking companion, although he may become distracted and attempt to chase the unsuspecting cat, mouse or squirrel who cross his path.

Clipper would be the ideal addition to an active adult home or family with older kids, who are all on the same page about meeting his exercise and discipline needs. He enjoys other dogs and would revel in play an energetic canine companion, but he would not be the family cat's greatest fan.

Clipper has performed well in basic obedience, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters are expected to troubleshoot the occasional marking accident that may occur during Clipper's transition to a new routine. He is extremely bright and will catch on to any training regimen quickly.

Clipper is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
