ADOPTED

CLOVER

Our Clover has one of the sweetest dispositions that we have ever come across in rescue. And, he is one of the most dramatic examples of how lifelong neglect of dental hygiene can cause secondary health issues in adult dogs. Now, Clover needs a second chance with a loving adopter who will provide the TLC that he did not get the first time around.

Clover was found as a city stray, but he was clearly someone's pet, because he was found wearing decorative and flea collars. After all attempts were made to find his owners, no one stepped up for him, and he was released us. The shelter vet alluded to a need for dental care, and so we made immediate plans for Clover to visit our vet right away.

We'd never seen a dental infection this bad, compounded by an upper respiratory infection that Clover was unable to fight off because his immune system was already badly compromised. The dental infection was so pervasive that Clover had developed some motor coordination problems. Clover went under for some extensive dental surgery, and the poor little guy lost every tooth in his head. He was given an aggressive course of antibiotics for several weeks and finally beat the bug.

We implemented a comprehensive nutritional plan to support Clover's recovery, and he did well on a grain free soft food, rich in high quality protein and omega fats. We added a vitamin and glucosamine supplement, and began him on a mild exercise routine. Now, 3 months later, Clover has the pep and vigor of an adult dog, rather than a senior. Shelter vets estimated Clover to be 10 years old, but since his health has improved so dramatically, our vet now places him at 7 or 8 years old. Nevertheless, with the health challenges he has faced in the past, we must consider him a senior and we're looking for an adoptor who is committed to dealing with senior dog issues.

Clover is a tiny boy, at only 8 pounds. He is described as a Pomeranian mix, and we think that mix just might be Long Hair Chihuahua. He has a beautiful tan and brown, fluffy coat that is easy to brush. Small tykes like Clover can live long healthy lives, if proper attention is paid to diet and exercise. Clover's adopter will need to continue him on a healthy diet, as well as a mild exercise program, consisting of one to two moderate leash walks each day.

Clover has an amazing temperament and can go to any kind of home. He is completely touchable, in fact, he relishes human affection and touch. He could easily join an active family with kids of all ages, as well as other dogs and cats. Clover's sweet, gentle energy will complement all other animals in a household.

Clover has excellent house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. He rides beautifully in the car and is just friendly to all strangers. Now he is in excellent health with full vet documentation available. Clover is neutered, has had complete blood work done, (all values within normal limits), and has had extensive dental surgery. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Clover, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info.
