CUTIE

Our lovely lady, Cutie, is aptly named. She came to us recently, and is slowly coming into her own. Just 2 years old, Cutie joined our rescue after spending some time in an overcrowded town shelter. Her owners had dropped her off without a plausable explanation. Our Shelter contact, Emily, was intantly smitten and sent out a plea on Cutie's behalf!

We could not resist Cutie, and immediately invited her to our Rescue. We are suckers for a pretty face, and a pair of big brown eyes. Cutie held her own in the shelter environment, which can terrify some dogs. She was initially reported to be shy and timid, and it seemed that the chaos and uncertainty of her situation had left her rattled. After unwinding a bit with shelter staff and volunteers, Cutie received positive behavior evaluations. She came out of her shell as soon as she arrived at our rescue. Cutie seems to crave human contact, and loves a lot of attention. Once shy and reserved, she has now has blossomed into a fun loving pup.

Cutie appears to be primarily a stunning Redbone Coonhound. She is a substantial, muscular dog, weighing 46 pounds, slightly smaller than breed standard Coonhounds. Cutie could stand to lose a few pounds. Her short, flat coat is russet red, and requires minimal groming. Cutie has a lean, leggy physique, with a proud stance, and all of the wonderful attributes of a Scent Hound.

Cutie would be the ideal choice for an active single or couple, who's lifestyle allows for her to participate front and center. We believe that Cutie's former home was too chaotic and unstructured for her sensitive nature, and she was overwhelmed with other dogs and children. While she is a loving and sweet dog, it seems that when faced with so much daily chaos, Cutie became a wallflower instead of a shining Superstar. Cutie craves a strong human connection and would thrive in a home with fewer dogs and people, so that she could enjoy the Limelight. Her ideal situation would be a quiet, laid back home with perhaps one other calm, well-trained dog or cat.

We sense some insecurity in Cutie's delicate nature. We have focussed on confidence building by activating her Scent Hound instincts. She enjoys leisurely walks where she can take in nature, but she can quickly adapt to a jogging pace. Cutie is an active dog who needs mental and physical stimulation. She has a moderate energy level, and would make a great walking or running companion. She would be a great addition to camping or hiking trips. The time she spends outdoors seems to thrill her.

Cutie has progressed nicely on her obedience training, and she has the potential to reach Canine Good Citizen certification. She's already passed many of the tests and and has learned her basic obedience sequence. Cutie is very treat motivated and easy to train. She may become occasionally distracted by the random scents of nature, but she redirects nicely, and seems to enjoy her training sessions. Ongoing focus on obedience training, will provide Cutie leadership and mental stimulation that she needs to thrive.

Cutie has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained, but adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Cutie is in good health and has recently been spayed She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
