ADOPTED

CYNTHIA

Our brindle beauty, Cynthia, has a story with an unusual twist. When I see the Caller ID, JessBACC pop up on my IPhone, I prepare myself for a sharp tug of my heart strings. Jess is our New Hope Rescue Contact at Brooklyn New York Animal Care and Control, where we have a 16 year history of helping NYCACC dogs.

When I answered this time, I was privy to a three part conversation, from the shelter medical unit. Apparently, lovely Cynthia was about to be euthanized, at the age of only 6 months, for the usual reasons: she had kennel cough and nobody had pulled her from the daily Euthanasia list despite great behavior ratings. The ghastly process was interrupted by vet conscience. My friend, Jessica, was called into the exam room to conjure up a miraculous option, where none had existed before. She has me on speed dial for such emergencies.

When I answered my cell, I was already in the NO mindset. We are dreadfully overcrowded, our resources and people stretched far, far beyond capabilities. Without missing a beat, I said, "No, Jess. We just can't take another one."

There was a pregnant pause on the line, as Jess stalled to tell the vet and tech of our decision. During those tension filled seconds, I consoled myself, "You can't save them all, and you are doing more than your fair share already." And then I asked myself, "Will you be able to sleep tonight?...."

And, so, I am pleased as punch to introduce Miss Cynthia! This darling Bully girl is as lovable as a dog can get, and is now destined to be the great love of somebody's life. Cynthia is a nouveau "pocket pittie," a diminutive version of the robust American Pit Bull Terrier, who weighs in at just 37 pounds. She is a beautiful brindle color, with extraordinary hazel eyes, and a million dollar smile.

Cynthia is pure joy of spirit, and has given her caretakers the greatest sense of satisfaction as she has settled into post shelter life. Her smile is contagious as she takes in all the fresh air and sunshine. Cynthia is a bright, active puppy poised at the threshold of a grand new life that few of this beleaguered breed will experience.

Cynthia is a joy to foster, and greets everyone with puppy joie de vivre. She has been temperment tested with high scores, so adopters will have great raw material, and a blank slate to work with on the obedience horizon. Cynthia is extremely smart and receptive to both positive rewards based and leadership techniques. We recommend taking Miss Cynthia down the road to Canine Good Citizenship, as defined by the AKC. Adopters who do the obedience work have much better outcomes than those who don't, and well adjusted, trained Pitties, who are properly exercised, become much needed Ambassadors for all the bully breeds.

Cynthia would be a great addition to an active adult home, or a family with older kids, who are experienced in handling high energy, powerful breeds. Still in puppyhood, Cynthia will need adopters who are prepared to puppy proof the premises, and work on house and leash manners. Although Cynthia has a fantastic, outgoing temperment, she is at the crossroads in her young life, where neglect and mishandling can impact behavior.

Cynthia is in excellent health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
