DEBONAIROur Debonair came to us three years ago in a fluster of gender panic and with a chip on his shoulder. Our shelter contacts prepared us for a female Min Pin named Debbie, and in strutted this fantastico hombre, oozing testosterone and machismo. Upon meeting "Debbie", someone commented that he was quite debonair, in his "tuxedo" since his white chest markings and "socks," gave him a dandy look, and so the name stuck. |

Debonair was abandoned twice by nitwit owners to a high kill animal control facility, where he became absolutely terrified. He is extremely lucky to have exited those premises alive. Typically owner surrendered dogs have a tough time in the shelter, after losing their beloved family members. Even a sub par owner is a hero in his dog's eyes. And, Debonair had to experience twice, this abandonment, and its lasting trauma. |
| Debonair came to us fearful and untrusting, and we worked hard to win him over. It was clear at the beginning, that Debonair's former owners had neglected him. In fact, it didn't seem as though anybody had spent any time with him at all. As we evaluated Debonair, we clearly saw the big Min Pin attitude, but also saw a strong resemblence to the Jack Russell Terrier. Debonair is a short, stocky dog weighing 20 pounds, and his physique seems to be JRT. He has mostly classic Min Pin black and tan coloring, with unusual white markings, that suggest this breed mix. |

Debonair has really blossomed in foster care. Country life agrees with him, and he has caught his fair share of country mice. While initially suspicious of human attention, he now melts into a loving, gentle touch. Recently he lost his best buddy, Pepe, who has been adopted, and now, it's Debonair's turn. Debonair prefers calm to chaos, and enjoys spending quiet time with his chosen people. Nine years old, our Debonair has relaxed into a gentle soul, willing to let a Human Pack Leader call the shots. |
| Debonair is best suited to experienced Min Pin or JRT lovers, who are willing to take charge, and continue Debonair on a moderate exercise and obedience regimen. Debonair is a medium energy dog, who needs reasonable exercise, at least two to three walks a day. He needs folks who will engage him and make him a big part of their lives. He loves his obedience training, and takes great pride and pleasure in completing the tasks, and will work for treats or praise. Obedience work seems to tire him out, almost as much as a brisk walk. |  |

Debonair would shine with the structured efforts of modedately active adults. He's not a good candidate for large families, and will likely intimidate small children and cats. He likes other dogs, and could easily join a multi-dog home with proper introduction. Debonair has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. |
| Debonair is in excellent health, and is at a lean body weight. He is neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.
