DECKER

Good gracious! Its the haircolor I always wanted. Gorgeous Decker is sportin' that lustrous blue, black tint to his coat that would have turned Liz Taylor's violet eyes green with envy! This robust young pup is a true beauty and is just as sweet as he looks.

The obvious DNA influx in our Decker is Chinese Chow Chow, as he has the unmistakable purple tongue. In addition, we see a healthy dose of black Labrador Retriever, that has thinned his coat a bit, creating a silky, wavy texture, soft to the touch. Decker has a bit of the Chow mane about his neck, that is framed with a pair of glorious floppy ears. Overall, Decker has a rather royal, muscular stance, while at the same time is lithe enough for atheletic pursuits. Weighing only 42 pounds, he can outrun a jackrabbit!

In temperment, Decker is a total love. He aced all of his shelter behavior evaluations...except at the vet, where he was reported to be quite nervous. Still, he wound up headed for death row, due to the sheer numbers of unwanted dogs. He was found as a stray, and after every attempt was made to find Decker's owner, we were able to take him into our rescue.

Decker has blended beautifully into his busy foster home and has made friends with a wide range of dogs. He has an outgoing, friendly demeanor, and he seems to greet strangers warmly. He has good doggie social skills and displays the proud confidence that Chows are known for. And yet, we see his goofy Lab side appear during playtime. Decker does not take himself too seriously.

As an active pup, Decker needs a good deal of exercise and focused playtime to keep him out of trouble! Puppies surely can create chaos if ignored for too long, and, only one year old, Decker has a bit o' pup left in him. We have not seen much evidence of obedience training in Decker, so adopters should be prepared to assume the Alpha Pack Leadership role and get him started on a course in basic manners and obedience. He is extremely bright and is both food and praise motivated, so training will be a snap.

Decker could easily join a multi-dog home, although his active play vibe might overwhelm senior dogs. We have not had him around cats, but seasoned Chow folks might be able to troubleshoot the dog-cat dynamic. Decker would be a good choice for the active single, or couple who enjoy the puppy training process. Decker could also join a high energy family, with older kids, who live an active lifestyle. He would be the ideal running, hiking or camping companion.

Decker is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He has been microchipped and de-wormed. Also, he has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. If you are interested in Decker, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info.
