DUCHESSHow grand is our Duchess! The credit for her rescue goes to our volunteer trainer, Chris, who has an affinity for Rhodesian Ridgebacks of the liver color persuasion. Chris spotted Duchess, destined for euthanasia, on the website of an animal control facility that we follow, and immediately noticed the Ridgeback traits. |

We invited Duchess to join our rescue, and she is indeed a grand lady. Only one year old, she was brought to the shelter by her owner on a promise she would come back to get her. Dutchess waited patiently for months, but the owner never came back. This young girl impressed the heck out of everybody she met, and yet beautiful Dutchess was passed over in the adoption program despite her excellent behavior rating. Why? Well, I just don't know why. There are just way more dogs on the rescue circuit than possible adopters, I guess. |
| We are so in love with Duchess, and thrilled to have a part in sending her off on her new life. Duchess would be a great addition to a multi-dog home. She has blended in beautifully with the other dogs in her foster home, and has proven herself to be friendly and outgoing to all she meets. She has great doggie skills and presents a neutral temperament. She loves to play and engages other dogs....even crusty old sourpusses. Duchess has charmed even the most un-charming of dogs. We haven't tested her with cats...but she'd likely ask them to play a game of Monopoly. | ![]() |

Duchess would be the ideal dog for an active family with older kids who are dog savvy. At 45 pounds, she is strong enough to knock the tar out of toddlers, but could stand up to the rambunctious attentions of older kids and teens. Duchess has had no obedience work, and, with a powerful breed like this, leadership and formal training is an absolute must. Also, Duchess is extremely high energy. She needs a good deal of vigorous leash walking, running or hiking, and focused play with her family. She would be an ideal addition to an active family that loves the outdoors and enjoys a dog that can accompany them on travels. |
| Duchess rides well in the car and has excellent house manners. She is house trained and crate trained, but savvy adopters will expect an accident or two during her transition to her forever home. She is in excellent health and has been thoroughly vet examined. Duchess is spayed and vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. She is microchipped and de-wormed. Also, she has tested negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis.
