DUDLEY

We were in a state of shock and awe when we accidentally stumbled upon Dudley's profile on the Euthanasia list at a large Animal Control facility. At the age of two, Dudley's number was up; another youngster had become expendable.

Dudley had paid his dues as a stray on the harsh urban streets before he was snatched up by Animal Control officers and brought to the city pound. He did not go willingly, and was not at all pleased with the Shelter hospitality. Dudley was reported by shelter vet to be fussy during his exam, but staff and volunteers quickly responded to his good looks and charm.

Dudley came to us with a case of Kennel Cough, but despite his discomfort, he seemed so grateful to be here. His KC subsided quickly, and our handlers fell in love with him immediately. He has blended beautifully into his busy foster home.

Dudley was described as a Beauceron mix, an ancient French Herding breed, but we find that a tad farfetched considering his humble roots. Our guess would be Doberman Pinscher, in his natural state, with uncropped tail and ears. Dudley is a large, tall dog, with a magnificent leggy stance, weighing in at 63 pounds. His coat is the trademark Dobie Black and Tan, and his long, glorious tail has a slight fringe to it. Dudley might have a slight bit of German Shepherd in him to explain his tail and broad forehead and muzzle.

Dudley is a high energy dog who needs a good deal of exercise to keep him calm. He would be the ideal running or hiking buddy for an active single or couple, whose lifestyle permits focus on his exercise and training needs. Obedience work should be part of Dudley's new life, and adopters will find him an easy, eager student. Dudley is surprising easy to handle on lead, and he has begun to grasp obedience basics. Dudley is also a natural athlete and would excel at Agility performance. Obedience work will provide the mental challenge that will help Dudley thrive in his new home.

Dudley is very stranger friendly and generally likes other dogs, but his high energy can be off-putting to some dogs. While he is good natured, his play is raucous and his dog manners get lost in his excitement. He is best suited to an adult home, (or family with teens), either as an only dog, or with one other high energy, well trained dog.

Dudley has good house manners and is house trained, and crate trained. Adopters are expected to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur during his adjustment to a new routine. He is in excellent health and has been recently neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
