ESPIE

We are completely in love with our little Espie. This boy can charm the snake right out of the basket. He has a million dollar smile and a pare of translucent brown peepers that can melt steel. Espie is a robust, tri-color Chihuahua, who weighs in at ten pounds. According to the AKC, any Chihuahua over 6 pounds is a wannabe, so we thnk that Espie is either mixed with a dose of something else, or he is part of the new trend of breeding larger, sturdier Chihuahuas.

The coloring on our boy is spectacular. He is a reddish chocolate brown, with cream and white markings. And, he is as personable as he is pretty. Espie loves everyone and craves human connection and attention. He is an ideal lap dog but does need a fairly active adopter who will meet his exercise needs. Only one and a half years old, Espie still has a dose of puppy in him and responds beautifully to structured, vigorous leash walks.
Espie strikes us as a low confidence guy. He can be timid at first, but not fearful. He is a pretty easy dog to assimilate into a busy lifestyle, but Espie would not be happy if he were left behind during the family outings. He loves to be part of the action and travels beautifully. He is small enough to travel in a Sherpa bag and is an ideal car passenger. He would do well with folks who like to integrate their cainine compantion into their busy lives.
Espie is very congenial with fellow dogs and would be fine with dog savvy cats. He would be a great family dog because his need for attention would compel him to work the family room, in search of the open lap for belly scratches and flutter kisses. Espie would love the attentions of well behaved kids who have been taught to handle small dogs with gentle care.
Like most rescues, Espie has had no formal obedience work, but his need to please makes him the ideal candidtate for training. He has excellent house manners, and is housetrained and crate trained, but it's safe to say that all rescue dogs will take a wiz on the carpet just to say hello and screw up the adoption. Adopters who expect an accident free transiton should prepare themselvves for reality.
Espie is in excellent health and is neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo / distemper and bordatella. He is microchipped and de-wormed, and has tested mngative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis.
