ADOPTED

EVELYN

Lovely Evelyn has just joined our rescue following a short stint as a lost stray in City Animal Control. A Good Samaritan found her nosing around in his back yard. After two weeks, no distraut owner had come to claim her, and her stray hold expired. By that time, she had caught a cold and was eliminated from the shelter adoption program. We were delighted to snatch up this petite beauty so that we could find her a forever home.

It's a shocker that Evelyn should wind up homeless and alone at the age of only one. Shelter staff pegged Evelyn as a Jack Russell Terrier, and, surely, if there is a breed crafty enough to flummox and elude an owner, it would be the JRT. Terrier lovers, in general, are a patient, tenacious lot, but JRT lovers are a cut above, in their devotion to these tiny, high energy scamps.

Frankly, Evelyn is somewhat ladylike for a JRT. She doesn't have the over-the-top frantic energy that we see in some of her compatriots. Instead, Evelyn approaches cautiously, and waits for an invitation to smother her person with kisses! She is an affectionate girl, who bonds quickly, once she trusts.

Evelyn has the characteristic JRT stocky, short stature. She has somewhat petite features for the breed, and is a pint sized, sturdy dog weighing 20 pounds. Her short, smooth coat is mostly white with strategically placed patches of carmel brown.

Evelyn would be a great choice for an active single or couple who enjoy a high energy Terrier type dog. She would be an enthusiastic companion on walks or hikes, and she loves to travel and be part of the action. Evelyn could also join an active family with older kids, as long as everyone can commit to her training and exercise schedule. The key to Evelyn is adequate exercise and mental stimulation to keep her from wallowing in the boredom and frustration that lead to behavior problems.

Evelyn is a social girl, and could easily join a home with other well trained, energetic dogs. We have not exposed her to cats, but the terrier-cat vibe is a well known dicey commodity. She has begun to grasp the basics of leadership and obedience work, and has passed a few of the Canine Good Citizen tests. Evelyn has the potential to excel in this program.

Evelyn is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
