HAIKU

Six year old, darling Haiku has just lost his home! His beleaguered owner had suffered some life setbacks that concluded in dumping Haiku in the pound where he spent the better part of a week. Haiku was not a happy camper in the pound, but now that he has been sprung, he is warming up nicely. We are delighted to help this stunning Shiba Inu find his forever home!

Upon first meeting, Haiku seems shy, but once he senses strong leadership and a good vibe, he warms quickly and will investigate his new surroundings with great interest. He has blended into his foster home with great ease and is cohabitating nicely with his housemates. While Shibas are hunting dogs, we have not seen much of a prey drive in Haiku. He gets along with small dogs, but we have not had him around cats. Savvy dog/cat owners should be able to forge a pack dynamic if the cat is accustomed to interacting with dogs.

Haiku would do best in an active environment, with a single, couple, or family with older kids. Young children will test his patience too much, and we feel that Haiku wouldn't be the best choice for a family with too much everyday chaos abounding. This boy likes the quiet life and will thrive in a home where he can be included with family outdoor activities like hiking and camping. He has a natural love of the outdoors and appreciates lots of outdoor time. Haiku would be happy with a couple of leisurely leash walks each day and lots of focused play time.

Haiku has not had much formal obedience training, but is eager to please and will work for praise or food. He would do well in structured classes and would, indeed, be the star pupil. Haiku loves to travel and is an excellent car passenger. Weighing 22 pounds, he is small enough to go anywhere.

Haiku is in excellent health. He is neutered, vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He has been microchipped and de-wormed and has tested negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis.
