ADOPTED

HOLKI

Lovely Holki is a timid girl, bewildered by the betrayal of her owners, who dumped her off at a high kill animal control facility. The mind boggles that a gorgeous, nine month old, white German Shepherd puppy could find herself in this predicament.

Holki maintained a low key vibe in the chaotic shelter environment, but garnered some great behavior evaluations from vet and shelter staff. She was disqualified from the adoption program as soon has she sported a sniffle, and we invited her to our rescue for some TLC.

Holki appears to be a White German Shepherd, with some scattered biscuit coloring on her short white coat. She has a lithe, sinewy build, and is quite a natural athelete. Holki has a tall, leggy stance, but weighs only 60 pounds, and is extremely easy to handle on lead.

At first meeting, Holki appeared shy and skittish, but she warmed very quickly and has blossomed beautifully. She seems to be a dog who becomes unsettled with change, so ongoing socialization and obedience work will build Holki's confidence. Once Holki feels comfortable, the puppy joie de vivre emerges, and she runs, jumps and plays with wild abandon.

Holki would be a fantastic choice for an active single or couple, who have the time to fine tune the puppy mannerisms of a youngster. Holki needs a fair amount of exercise and mental stimulation to keep the puppy mayhem at bay, and would make the ideal walking, running or hiking companion. She has made great strides in puppy kindergarten and basic obedience work. She has passed the first three tests of Canine Good Citizenship, and has the potential to reach certification.

Holki could also join an active family, with older kids, who are willing to do the puppy training legwork. We think that toddlers might make Holki nervous, but she would revel in the companionship of another alpha dog, and would surely follow a good behavior example. We have not had Holki around cats, but she has not shown any predatory tendencies, so she would likely navigate a feline household with ease.

Holki has good house manners, and is crate trained and mostly housetrained. Adopters should have reasonable expectations of a recently spayed pup, and be willing to troubleshoot an occasional accident as Holki learns her new routine.

Holki is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
