ADOPTED

JACKIE

Our lovely Jackie has been with us for a few months now and is slowly coming into her own. Four years old, Jackie joined our rescue after spending some time in an overcrowded animal control facility. Her owner had dropped off several dogs to the shelter, claiming that her landlord no longer wanted dogs in building. As an owner surrendered dog, Jackie only had 48 hours to attract the attention of the rescue liasons, who might network her to a Rescue group before she was relegated to the Euthanasia list.

Jackie's shelter"mug" shot

And, that's how Jackie wound up with us. We are suckers for a pretty face and a pair of big brown eyes. Jackie did not fare well in the shelter, she was very shy and fearful. The chaos and uncertainty of her situation left her rattled. Despite pretty good behavior evaluations, Jackie seemed quite shaken by the shelter experience. She came to us shy and reserved, but now has blossomed into a fun loving pup, eager for human connection.

Jackie appears to be primarily a stunning Redbone Coonhound. She is a medium sized dog, weighing 32 pounds, smaller than purebred Coonhounds, so we suspect she may have a bit of Beagle in her genetic make up. Her tri-color coat is russet red, with brown ears, white tuxedo markings on her chest, and delicate white "socks." Jackie has a lean, leggy physique, with a proud stance, and all of the wonderful attributes of a Scent Hound.

Jackie would be the ideal choice for an active single or couple, who's lifestyle allows for Jackie to participate front and center. We believe that Jackie's former home was too chaotic and unstructured for her sensitive nature, and she was overwhelmed with other dogs and children. While she is a loving and sweet dog, it seems that when faced with so much daily chaos, Jackie became a wallflower instead of a shining Superstar. Jackie craves a strong human connection and would thrive in a home with fewer dogs and people, so that she could enjoy the Limelight. Her ideal situation would be a quiet, laid back home with perhaps one other calm, well-trained dog or cat.

We sense some insecurity in Jackie's delicate nature. We have focussed on confidence building by activating her Scent Hound instincts. She enjoys leisurely walks where she can take in nature, but she can quickly adapt to a jogging pace. Jackie is an active dog who needs mental and physical stimulation. She has a moderate energy level, and would make a great walking or running companion. She would be a great addition to camping or hiking trips. The time she spends outdoors seems to thrill her.

Jackie has progressed nicely on her obedience training, and she has the potential to reach Canine Good Citizen certification. She's already passed many of the tests and and has learned her basic obedience sequence. Jackie is very treat motivated and easy to train. She may become occasionally distracted by the random scents of nature, but she redirects nicely, and seems to enjoy her training sessions. Ongoing focus on obedience training, will provide Jackie the leadership and mental stimulation that she needs to thrive.

Jackie has good house manners, and is nearly house trained and crate trained. Her former owners only took her out once a day, and relied on wee wee pads for other potty breaks. We have been successful in transitioning her potty habits to outdoors, but Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. Jackie is in good health and has recently been spayed She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and Canine Flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
