JACK TRIPPY

Lovable Jack Trippy is one of our favorite foster dogs. He is pure Beagle through and through, right down to his beautiful singing voice. Five years old, Jack joined us a few months ago in sorry shape. He was found roaming the city streets, and was rudely escorted by Animal Control to the city pound. Jack was obese at 40 pounds, and had a suspicious skin condition consisting of dime-sized circles of alopecia along his spine.

Since stray dogs don't usually have access to enough food to make them fat, the Shelter concluded that Jack was lost, and made every attempt to find his family. When no concerned owner came forward, his time was up at the shelter, and he was put on the euthanasia list. We were tickled pink to add another Beagle to our chorus. Jack contributes the falsetto voice that we were missing.

Our first mission was to diagnose the round spots of alopecia on Jack's back. All diagnostic tests for fungus or mange were negative. We were perplexed. Slowly, the spots started to disappear as Jack's system adjusted to better nutrition. And now, the spots are completely gone; another testament to the value of a high-quality diet and nutrition. Jack is doing extremely well on a grain free kibble diet, rich in quality protein and added omega fats. As a bonus, he has lost 10 pounds of blubber, and is looking lean and svelt.

Jack is a purebred "Lemon" Beagle, with a two-tone coat of white and yellow (lemon)- tan colors. He has the characteristic short, stocky Beagle physique, and is at an ideal lean body weight of 30 pounds. Jack is true to his Beagle Scent Hound roots. He is easy to entertain with a simple leash walk. Jack loves the outdoors and savors all of the scents that nature has to offer. He needs two to three brisk leash walks a day to engage his mind and meet his energy needs.

Jack is this an extremely lovable guy, good-natured and generally friendly to people. He can be a bit shy at first, but warms quickly to gentle human touch. He would be the ideal companion for an active single or couple who enjoy outdoor activities. He could also join a family with older children, but may not appreciate the unwelcome attentions of handsy toddlers. We have not tested Jack with cats, but he does not strike us as a predatory type, so cats may not be out of the question.

Jack will bond quickly and love his family, and will want to be the center of attention. If he is relegated to a fenced-in yard or a separate room in an apartment, he will get fussy and bark for attention. Jack certainly could be alone for an eight hour work day, as long as he has toys and chewies to amuse himself, but he is not a fan of isolation. When his family is home he likes to be in the thick of things. He has a vibrant, intense personality that will thrill Beagle people. He's very typical of the breed.

Jack is in excellent health, has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
