JAXSON

Our robust boy, Jaxson, is a whole lotta dog! He came to us from a young girl in our town who had lost her job and apartment. This young lady was in the process of reinventing herself, and asked us to watch Jaxson temporarily while she got her act together. We agreed, but now, six months later, her new life is not going to accommodate Jaxson, and we've been asked to find him a forever home.

Jaxson is a compact, muscular mix of Beagle and Standard Dachshund. He came to us obese at 63 pounds, but has slimmed down nicely to 49. Jaxson has a stocky, muscular build with the characteristic short legs, paddle feet and elongated spine, as well as the rich, russet coloring, that we see in Standard sized Dachshunds.

We just love this dog! He has a fantastic personality and has made lightning progress in his training program. When we first met Jaxson, he was wary of strangers, and was not at all shy about expressing his opinion in inappropriate situations. Now, after some basic leadership and consistent training, Jaxson accompanies his Foster Dad on errands to Home Depot, Tractor Supply, etc, and is now welcome wherever he goes. Jaxson is accepting of strangers and is quick to submit for belly rubs. In the hands of motivated adopters, he could easily earn his Canine Good Citizen certification.

Jaxson would be ideally suited to an active single or couple, who can meet his exercise and training needs. Jaxson is lively dog, and needs a couple of brisk leash walks each day, as well as consistent work on his obedience commands. He has a double dose of Scent Hound DNA and requires mental, as well as, physical stimulation to maintain balanced behavior. He needs a strong pack leader, who has the time and inclination to continue him on his path to Canine Good Citizenship. Jaxson could easily join another dog home with a pack that is balanced, socialized and well trained. We don't think he would be suitable for a busy family with children.

Jaxson has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.
