JUSTIN

Our lovable Justin is one big goofball puppy, a total clown who gives us grand belly laughs! He came to us, only 8 months old, from an overcrowded, high kill city shelter, where he had been dumped by lackluster owners who gave up on him during his puppy formative years. Some dogs, betrayed by their owners in this manner, can show signs of trauma at losing their cushy homes, but Justin seemed to think his stay at the pound was one big adventure, complete with rollercoaster ride! Maybe his home was not so cushy.

Justin was a shelter staff favorite, and received excellent behavior evaluations. His bum luck to catch a cold got him bounced from the shelter adoption program. We were thrilled to have him join our rescue, and he has adapted beautifully to the diverse pack of foster dogs. After a short course of antibiotics, Justin is the picture of health!

Shelter staff have described Justin as a cross between a German and Australian shepherd. His look is beautiful and unique, with a striking black muzzle, and tricolor coat in shades of black, brown and white. He has the characteristic German Shepherd saddleback markings, but he has no tail, characteristic of some Aussie Shepherds. There is no way to tell if he was born with a natural tail bob, or if his tail was docked. Nonetheless, the little stump wags profusely as Justin is a perpetually happy dog.

As a double dose herding dog, Justin will do best in an active home, where he has some purpose. He would make an ideal family dog, who will respond to the affections of kids of all ages. Justin craves human attention and will not play favorites. Justin could could easily join a multi-dog home, with dogs of a similar energy level. He loves to play and may be too active for some senior dogs, but he has a neutral temperment that blends in nicely in a dog pack. We have not had Justin around cats, but he would likely herd them beyond their last nerve.

Justin is a high energy puppy, who requires a good deal of exercise to channel his herding instincts. He would make an excellent hiking or running companion and loves all types of outdoor activity. Justin also needs mental stimulation to keep him from developing unwanted behavior rooted in boredom and frustration. He is a natural for obedience and leadership training, and has excelled in the beginner's phase of the Canine Good Citizenship program.

Justin has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. He has been recently neutered, and adopters must have appropriate expectations of a pup his age, and fine tune potty habits as he adjusts to a new routine.

Justin is in excellent health, and has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
