ADOPTED |
KODIOur Kodi is a giant Eskie Teddy Bear! He just came to us from a savvy rural Animal Control Officer who recognized Kodi's owner as a bit "off," and intercepted Kodi before his owner abandoned him in the woods. Honestly... we are speechless!!! As Shakespeare observed, "What a piece of work is man." Indeed! We learned from the Animal Control Officer that Kodi had been allowed to roam free in the town, acting a fool at every opportunity. As an unneutered male dog on the prowl, Kodi did not ingratiate himself with the neighbors. As a result of such shoddy, irresponsible dog ownership, this gorgeous, standard three year old American Eskimo Dog finds himself in Rescue. |

We are continually amazed at how quickly a dog turns around with proper handling. Kodi is a fantastic dog, with a loving, cuddly demeanor, who has responded beautifully to the basic leadership and obedience provided by his foster mom. Kodi is getting along well with his foster housemates, although the hormonal energy of an unneutered male dog is not always conducive to positive pack relations. We expect Kodi's overly amorous vibe to subside once he is neutered. Kodi would be a good choice for seasoned Eskie folks... an active single or couple who have calm, assertive leadership skills to help Kodi reach his Canine Good Citizenship. He is extremely smart and eager to please, so training exercises should be a pleasure. |
Kodi is lacking in leash manners, and although he came to us with a collar, he likely has not been leash walked before. He is coming along nicely, and is enjoying outings to the beach. We are working on his leash manners with other dogs, and recommend that adopters continue on with focussed leash work using appropriate equipment. Kodi has the makings of a great family dog, if all family members are on board with his training regime. Older kids would delight in Kodi's friendly nature, but he might be too much for toddlers. We have not tested him with cats. | ![]() |

Kodi is a beautiful, big boy...a large Standard American Eskimo Dog, who is very much Breed Standard in appearance. His gorgeous coat is lush white, and in great condition. He has a dense undercoat that may need professional grooming attention a couple times a year, in addition to regular brushing. At forty-two pounds, Kodi appears slightly overweight, and should probably loose five to six pounds, through a nutritious quality protein diet and exercise. He is in excellent health and is scheduled to be neutered this week. Kodi is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
