LADY

Lovely Lady is seeking a confident, active owner to sweep her off her paws!  This beautiful, robust girl came to us as scrawny, malnourished pup, who was so severely underweight that she could not be spayed.  Lady was in very rough shape, with significant skin and hair loss issues.

Only 8 months old, Lady was found as a city stray and spent part of her puppyhood incarcerated at a large animal control facility, where she seemed doomed.  Lady's malnourished state made it difficult for her to fight off the kennel cough virus, which morphed into a full blown upper respiratory infection.  She was quickly relegated to the Euthanasia list, her chance at a new life cut short, despite excellent behavior evaluations.

When we learned of Lady's plight, we brought her to our rescue, and began an aggressive course of antibiotics, as well as a complete nutritional makeover, including grain free kibble, rich in high quality protein and omega fats.  She began to respond beautifully, and in a short time she conquered the URI and regained her gorgeous coat.  Now at the age of year and a half, she is the picture of good health.

Shelter contacts had described Lady as a Shepherd Mix, and we see some Shepherd traits in her face and elongated muzzle, but she has the stout, compact physique of a Cattledog, and she is built for speed! Lady is a medium sized dog, weighing 45 pounds, and is muscular, yet athletic.  Her short tricolored coat is easy to maintain, and her coloring is stunning, in shades of russet red, white and black.  She has white tuxedo markings on her chest.

In temperament, Lady seems to favor her Cattledog roots.  She is a smart, independent girl, who definitely needs a job to focus her energy and mental talents.  She is a natural for obedience work, and has progressed well on her Canine Good Citizen program.  She enjoys her training tremendously, and adopters should continue her program to keep boredom and frustration from getting the best of her.  Lady is poised for mischief if left to her own devices.

Lady would be the ideal companion for an active single or couple, who are inclined to provide her alot of action, and meet her exercise and training needs.  We think that Lady needs at least two to three brisk leash walks a day; running or hiking would be even better.  The more Lady is challenged mentally and physically, the better behaved she will be.

We don't think Lady would be a good choice for families with kids or cats, because her herding instincts will kick in and not fly with all family members.  Lady has good house manners, and is housetrained and crate trained. She rides well in the car, but adopters may wish to use a seat belt harness to insure her safety.

Lady is in excellent health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
