ADOPTED

LILLY

Our heartbreaker, Lilly, recently joined us from a home where she had taken up temporary residence after life as a country stay. She was found in pretty rough physical and spiritual shape by a Good Samaritan who was unable to keep her long term due to housing restrictions. We were asked to take Lilly into our rescue, and find her forever person.

Lilly appears to be an American Eskimo Dog mixed with a bit of Shetland Sheepdog. Lilly has the Eskie double coat, with some biscuit markings, but her head and elongated muzzle suggest some Sheltie DNA. Her lovely coat requires some regular brushing, and occasional professional grooming.

Lilly seems a sad girl, without the characteristic chutzpah that we see in many Eskies. She desperately needs to connect with her special person, who will pick up the end of that leash and lead her into the joyous sunlight.

Lilly is a mild mannered, timid soul who seems content as a wallflower, rather than at center stage. Her ideal adopter will have patience, and a willingness to work Lilly through her fears and insecurities. Helping a rescue dog heal can be a life changing experience for the right person. Lilly has bonded nicely with her foster Dad, and has shown us just how much love she has to give. She keeps him company during TV time, during which they settle together into slumberland after one too many NCIS episodes (although we suspect that Lilly would rather be watching the Disney Channel, but she has not yet learned to work the remote).

Despite Lilly's uncertainty about people, she is extremely gentle, and goes to avoidance mode rather than fear nipping. She would be the ideal companion for the quiet adult home, where she could shine as a superstar. Lilly could certainly be trusted with the occasional child visitor, but she would be too stressed in a busy family with kids. She is quiet, and well suited to apartment life, and could live happily with other gentle dogs and cats.

Lilly has responded nicely to positive reinforcement training with her foster Dad. Gentle handling and calm leadership is the key, and then Lilly seems to become calm and eager to please. The obedience sequence serves as a welcome distraction from her worries, and the work builds her confidence and trust.

Lilly has great house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. She has been spayed, and is current on routine vaccinations. She has tested negative for heartworm and tickborne diseases. Also, she has been dewormed and is on monthly flea, tick and heartworm preventitives. If you are interested in Lilly, please call Denise at 720 903 0636, or email Denise@EskiesOnline.com for an adoption application.
