ADOPTED

LOVIE

Our Lovie is a beguiling, timid girl, who needs a strong hand to help boost her confidence. She was found abandoned in a wreck of a building, where she was likely seeking respite from the elements. Animal Control Officers found her in an extremely emaciated condition and brought her to the city pound where shelter vets tended to her health. We were delighted when the shelter transfered Lovie to our care.

Lovie is a shy, gentle soul, who takes a few minutes to warm up to new people. She has adapted nicely to her foster home, and seems to really enjoy human companionship and touch, once she settles in. One year old, Lovie is an older puppy, who still needs a good deal of exercise to work out her yayas: at least two to three brisk leash walks daily, as well as ongoing obedience work to build her confidence.

Lovie has a very graceful physique, looks rather she deer-like. At just 29 pounds, Lovie possibly has some Sighthound in her DNA cocktail, most likely Whippet, due to her slight features and arched spine. Shelter workers suggest that she may be part Carolina dog. In temperament, she strikes us as Sighthound, since she is very timid, submissive and extremely agile. We recommend that adopters be very cautious in allowing Lovie off leash, until a full bond has formed.

Lovie is a sensitive girl, and she would thrive in an active adult home with adopters who have time to devote to her exercise and training needs. She may be overwhelmed by busy families with small children, but she could easily join a multi-dog home, and would likely do well with cats. Lovie has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home.

Lovie is in good health, and has gained some healthy weight, but should probably continue to put on another couple of pounds. She would be ideal at 32 to 35 pounds, so that a thin layer of fat covers her skeletal structure. She is thriving on a grain-free kibble now, with added grain-free wet food, and a forkful of canned salmon daily for its omega fat health benefits. She has been recently spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
