MAX BEAR

Our Max Bear is a real bundle of love. This youngster was found as a stray in an unfriendly urban location and brought into the pound by a concerned good Samaritan. Only a year and a half old, this stunning Collie/Chow Chow mix had become a rescue dog! We presume that Max Bear was somebody's pet, but alas, nobody claimed him, so when his "stray hold" was up, we were able to take him into our rescue.

Max was extremely shy at first, but has blossomed beautifully into a total love. He relishes human attention and is a fantastic companion dog. He doesn't seem to play favorites -- instead, he spreads the love around, making him great for families with older kids, who want a dog that everyone will enjoy. Max can be shy around strangers, but he should improve with continued socialization and training.

Max has had no formal obedience work, but is responding to the basics that he is learning in foster care. He pulls a bit on the leash, so adopters will want to use some mode of equipment like the Illusion collar or Halti lead to support good leash manners. Max has excellent house manners and is housetrained and crate trained, but he can be fussy in the crate if left alone too long. He sleeps well in his crate at night, but also can be trusted uncrated. We have not observed any destructive behavior.

Max enjoys the company of other dogs. He has slowly developed a play vibe and has his favorite playmates in his foster home dog pack. He has no prey drive to speak of, but would likely chase cats to investigate or play. He travels well in the car and would enjoy frequent walks, car rides and trips to dog parks. He would make a wonderful companion to the active person who walks, runs or hikes.

Max is in excellent health and is at an ideal weight of 40 pounds. He is a big boned, stocky boy with a gorgeous Spitz type stance, plume tail and prick ears. His coat is coarse with a thick undercoat, and is multi colored with black, tan and cream markings.

Max has been neutered and vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and bordatella. He has been microchipped and de-wormed, and is negative for heartworm/lyme/earlichia/anaplasmosis.
