MAX

Our gentle giant, Max, is a sage soul who is missing his home and his special person. Seven years old, he was recently abandoned by his trusted owner to an uncertain fate at a high kill shelter, where he quickly became unglued in a stressful, harsh environment. Owner surrendered dogs often have difficulty adapting to shelter life, after experiencing the trauma of losing their home and loved ones.

Max fared better than most, and scored well on his Vet exam and SAFER evaluations. Handlers reported some nervous energy, which we'd expect under the circumstances. Max has mellowed beautifully, and has proven to be quite the laidback houseguest. He has his favorite canine companions, and could easily join a multi-dog home with other calm, medium energy dogs. He is well past the puppy mayhem years, and would make an excellent companion for an adult or senior dog.

Shelter staff believe Max to be a Chinese Chow Chow, with some German Shepherd thrown in for good measure. He is a large, impressive dog, with a proud stance and weighing 68 pounds. Max has a glorious gold and black coat, with a thick mane and undercoat that requires some upkeep and regular grooming. His gorgeous mane was matted to the skin, and our groomer had to shave him to remove many matted clumps. His pix show him before and after his grooming visit. His mane will regrow to it's former glory in no time.

Max is a medium to low energy dog, and does not require a lot of exercise. One or two leisurely leash walks a day should suffice, to keep him fit. Max seems a but chubby, and has lost a few pounds in foster care with the diet change. Adopters should keep Max on a nutritious grain free diet with quality protein and omega fats for his skin and coat.

Max would be a great addition to the quiet adult home, experienced with large breed dogs, where he can relax and nap by the fire after a pleasant stroll or car ride. Max is a a devoted companion, and has proven himself to be an amiable fellow, friendly to all and appreciative of human touch and affection.

Max is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
