MAXX

Maximillian is a sad, lonely Widower! Seven years old, this robust Jack Russell Terrier was cast off by his Owner, along with his lifelong Lady Love, Bonnie, and dumped in a harsh Animal Control facility. Maxx and Bonnie had tag teamed the family cat. Terriers and cats are not a match made in heaven. People should know better!

Soon after arriving at the Shelter, Maxx and Bonnie contacted kennel cough, and while Maxx was able to fight off the bug, Bonnie became ill and passed to the rainbow bridge.

Maxx was a bit sullen for a while, but now he has brightened up in foster care, and is settling in nicely. Maxx has buddied up with a few of our small foster dogs and has begun to enjoy life again. Our Maxx has begun to show some signs of joy.

Maxx would be a great family dog in a feline-free home. He is quite friendly and seems to greet everyone with the same good cheer. Maxx is not likely to play family favorites, and he would be a good companion for older kids. He is a sturdy enough dog to stand up to rough horse play. Maxx could easily join a multi-dog home, or be a great companion to an active single or couple. He loves attention and action, but would be content to lounge in his crate during the work day.

We'd describe Maxx as the "Anti-Jack" in that he is spirited, but not over-the-top frantic like some of the high energy Jack Russells we have known. He does need a far amount of exercise and focussed playtime. As an adult dog, Maxx is well past the puppy destructive stage and has mellowed into adulthood. Maxx would be a great choice for a first time JRT owner. He is fairly calm for his breed and easy to handle.

Maxx has had no obvious obedience work, but he is food and praise motivated, so training will be easy. He has already responded well to
leadership and positive reinforcement techniques. We recommend formal obedience work to build the new bond with his adopter, and to provide the mental and physical challenge that this breed needs to avoid becoming bored and frustrated.

Maxx has good house manners and is housetrained. Adopters should expect and forgive an occasional accident as he transitions into a new routine. Maxx is also nicely crate trained, so adopters will be able to rely on this tool if needed. He is used to his Vari Kennel, and can be easily transported in it. Maxx also rides well in the car, and is not reactive to the usual stimuli of toll and gas attendants.

Maxx is in great health and has been neutered. His CBC blood panel indicated all values within normal limits. He has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, and bordatella, and is microchipped and de-wormed. He has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
