ADOPTED

MICKEY

Our delicate Mickey got a bum deal when his senior owner became ill and was no longer able to care for him. He had lived happily in a quiet home with a doting owner, and one other dog, until one day he found himself an unwitting resident in a high kill animal control facility. He was just six years old.

Mickey had lived a pretty sheltered life, and the sudden upheaval shocked him silly. He did not fare well amidst the mayhem of his new surroundings and could not warm up to any of his handlers. His behavior evaluations were lukewarm and did not earn him a spot in the shelter adoption program. Soon, he was greenlighted for euthanasia, so we invited Mickey to join our rescue so that he could relax and unwind in foster care.

Mickey was one of the most grateful little fellas who ever came to us. He immediately let his guard down, and warmed to everyone he met. Soon he was back to his normal self, and was learning to trust new people and other dogs. Mickey seems to be the shy sort of dog that prefers to watch by the sidelines rather than get into the thick of the action. And yet, he seems to seek out other calm dogs and people to become part of the pack.

Mickey prefers company over solitude, but seems to shut down in a high energy environment. He would love to join the quiet home of a single or couple, and perhaps one or two calm, low energy dogs or cats. Mickey is a gentle soul, with fantastic lap dog potential. He rests comfortably near his person, and snuggles peacefully under the fluffy comforters. He would be the ideal apartment dog, who would relax during a workday without rousing the neighbors with nuisance barking.

Mickey is a petite Chihuahua, and weighs only 8 pounds. His coat is short, smooth and requires minimal grooming. His overall tan coat is accented with dark brown and black, giving his fur a shaded look. Mickey is the kind of mellow dog who could accompany his owner anywhere. He has great car manners and is small enough to fit in an airline approved Sherpa bag for plane travel.

Mickey has great house manners, and is house trained and crate trained, and will obligingly use pee pads in the dead of winter. Adopters should expect to forgive a few accidents as Mickey learns his new routine. Mickey is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza) and Bordatella. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis, and he has been dewormed.
