ADOPTED

MICKEY

Our Mickey is a gentle soul, who was abandoned by his owner to a high kill Animal Control Facility. He came to the shelter with a horrible dental infection that permeated his system and made it impossible to fight off the nasty kennel cough bug that plagues shelter dogs. Mickey developed upper respiratory symptoms, was booted from the adoption program, and put on the euthanasia list, even though he passed the shelter behavior test to qualify for adoption.

Just 8 years old, Mickey's number was up, and he had very little hope for a happy future, until he appeared on our radar. We figured we could resolve his URI and dental issues with a little elbow grease, and a whole lot of antibiotics. Mickey improved immediately and once his URI was under control, we were able to proceed with the dental surgery. The poor little guy lost most of his teeth!

Mickey is the sad poster boy for chronic owner neglect of companion dogs. Luckily he came to us early enough so that we could restore his health, and ensure great quality of life. His adopter will want to maintain Mickey on a nutritious grain free soft diet. We have added a forkful of canned salmon every other day for its considerable nutritional benefits. Mickey is now in A-1 shape and ready for his next grand adventure.

Mickey is a very amiable dog and has excellent pack manners. He negotiates his way within the dog pack brilliantly. All the other dogs seem to like him, and he fits in wherever he goes. We are attributing his social nature to his American Eskimo DNA, which appears to be his primary breed. He is likely mixed with Husky, which gives him height and a more elongated, straight spine. Mickie is a medium-size dog at 28 pounds, the size of a standard Eskie, but slightly taller and thinner. His coat has a good deal of golden overtone to it and he has a hint of the Husky mask.

Mickie is not an overly energetic dog, and would best suit an adult home or family with owners who are able to provide moderate exercise. He is not a fan of being alone, so, we think that he would make a great companion for an active senior, or someone who works from home, so that he has regular companionship. He could easily join a multi-dog home, and would be an ideal companion to senior dogs, who are slowing down, or young adult dogs, who are past their puppy mayhem years. We think he would coexist nicely in a feline home too. Mickey is comfortable in most situations.

Mickie has good house manners and is house trained. He doesn't care for his crate much, but will tolerate it for short periods. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, and has been neutered. He had full pre-op blood work done, a complete dental procedure with extractions, and a second round of blood work that indicates his values are within normal limits. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and canine flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, and microchipped.
