MICO

Gorgeous Mico is the kind of dog that you don't expect to find in rescue, and yet, we seem to be saying that about alot of our dogs these days. Only a year and a half years old, this boy was left by his owner in a high kill animal control facility, where Mico's fate was precarious. We suspect this is another case of the cute fuzzball puppy who has the misfortune of evolving into a big ol' Husky.

As an owner's dog, Mico had only two days before he was shortlisted for the euthanasia list. Since he has such an outstanding personality, Mico had alot of folks rooting for him, but he lost his spot in the shelter adoption program when he caught a strain of kennel cough. We were thrilled to have him join us. After a short course of antibiotics, Mico recovered fully.

Mico is an unusual, all white Siberian Husky, with ice blue eyes. Huskies are a magnificent dog breed, in spirit and appearance, and yet they are not for the faint-hearted owner. Exercise is the key to this breed, and, let's face it.... the average dog owner is hard pressed to tire a dog who is hardwired with the stamina and endurance needed to pull sleds across the frozen tundra! At the very least, Mico needs an active single, couple or family, who can provide a good work out for him each day.

Mico has a gentle temperament, and would be a good choice for a first time Husky owner. He is outgoing, and less aloof than most Huskies, so he would be a good candidate to make a connection with older kids. Mico still has alot of his puppy mojo, so adopters should be prepared to fine tune the puppy behaviors and continue him on a structured obedience program. He has begun to learn the basics of the Canine Good Citizenship program and has proven to be a first rate student.

Mico is a medium sized dog, and is a bit underweight, weighing 40 pounds. Adopters should continue him on a healthy diet of nutrient rich, grainfree kibble, and omega fat supplements, to help him reach an ideal weight of 45 to 50 pounds.

Mico has great house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident as Mico transitions to a new routine. He has been neutered, and has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
