MONICA

Our Divalicious Monica is way to big for her pantaloons! This stunning and graceful Eskie mix needs a seasoned, patient Eskie devotee, who will polish her rough manners and inspire her through command presence and leadership.

Just over one year old, Monica hit the skids in life, when her owner gave up on her and dumped her in a high kill animal control facility. Monica's person likely acquired a puppy at the wrong time in life, when there was no time to pay attention to the important cues of puppy social development. Consequently, Monica grew up suspicious of people and, sadly, of her own species.

When we meet a dog like Monica, whose path in life has been so negatively imprinted with human cluelessness, we immediately begin a bootcamp approach, to reconnect the dog to his or her playful puppy roots, and start building loving bonds with people and other dogs. The progress in this kind of case is thrilling to watch, as a fearful dog opens up and begins to enjoy soak up the sights and sounds of a positive universe.

Monica has made great progress, and she has blossomed beautifully in her multi-dog foster home. She has begun to learn how to play with other dogs, and has built many positive relationships with people. She could join a multi-dog home with another well trained dog, but she would likely pick up bad habits from a canine wild child. She's not good with cats at all.

At this point in her life, Monica needs strong and positive role models in the human arena as well. Her adopter should have a calm, assertive leadership style, as well as the patience and perseverance to continue Monica's socialization and training. She would not be a good candidate for a busy family with children, but would would thrive in a dog savvy adult home, where she would receive the exercise and discipline needed to develop her amazing potential. Monica could easily become Canine Good Citizen certified in the hands of motivsted adopters.

Monica is a true beauty who appears to be mostly American Eskimo Dog, with perhaps a bit of Siberian Husky DNA to explain her leggy stature. She has a lithe physique, well suited to agility, and yet she is a manageable size of just 30 pounds, the size of a standard American Eskimo Dog. Her coat is short and flat, and does not provide the shedding or grooming challenge that most Eskies present.

While she has made tons of progress, Monica's the adopters will have to fine tune her house manners. She is mostly house trained, and crate trained, but the adopters are expected to troubleshoot accidents that may occur during the transition to a new routine She still has a lot of puppy behaviors, and seems to be somewhat behind the learning curve in her social development. She still tends to jump up a little bit and be forward and somewhat rude in her stranger greeting. She had grasped obedience basics quickly, and is very eager to please. Adopters will have a great time continuing her program.

Monica is in excellent health, and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed.
