MURPHY

Our jovial hooligan, Murphy is boisterous, rollicking, three year old American Eskimo who lives life out loud. This robust, 30 pound Standard exudes the Eskie spirit that draws folks to this stunning breed. Murphy came to us from a surburban Humane Society, where he had been dumped by his owner, who had failed to provide proper obedience training and then let him run amuck.

We were eager to meet the beautiful Murphy, and immediately saw that he had a giant chip on his shoulder. We are pleased to report that after a short time in training boot camp, Murphy has grasped the basics beautifully, and actually seems relieved to have something to do. The simple combination of exercise and obedience training is all it took to turn Murphy into a well mannered companion. Adopters will be able to get up to speed quickly, now that Murphy knows all of his commands, and readily works for treats or praise.

We would like to see Murphy join the home of experienced Eskie owners, preferably folks who have dealt with a rescue Eskie before. Murphy is likely to test the boundaries in his new home, and a wee bit of the ol' mischevious leprechaun may rear its head in the first few weeks of adoption. Adopters should be patient and firm with Murphy and establish Alpha leadership from day one.

Murphy would do well in an active adult home, where he can play a front-center role. He loves to run and hike and do just about anything outdoors. Activity is the key to Murphy's happiness. He doesn't sit still for very long and would be a natural at obedience competition or agility training. As a quick witted Eskie, Murphy needs mental as well as physical challenges. Murphy is generally people friendly, but we'd prefer to steer clear of small children, who may not respect Murphy's boundaries, and cats, who might tempt him to chase. However, Murphy could join a multi-dog home with other well-trained dogs. He loves to play and roughhouse.

Murphy will do best in a home that is structured and disciplined. If he is left to his own devices, and given free run too quickly, he will surely make some mischief. He has good house manners, and is house trained and cratetrained, although, adopters should be prepared to acclimate Murphy to a new potty routine. He may have an occasional accident during his transition to a new home.

Murphy is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, adrenovirus, distemper, hepatitus, leptopirosis, and coronavirus. He has been treated for flea dermatitis, which has left a slight rust colored tinge on his hind quarters, that will lighten up in time. He's been groomed a couple of times and has handled easily. He has been dewormed, and has tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
