ADOPTED

PAYSO

Darling Payso has the classic Terrier good looks that attract admirers in legions. At the prime age of seven, he found himself abandoned to his fate in a large, high kill animal control facility, no plausible explanation provided by his erstwhile owners. Payso received excellent behavior evaluations, and earned himself a place in the adoption program, but was quickly disqualified once he caught the obligatory shelter kennel cough. At that point, Payso was on the slippery slope to euthanasia; we spotted him and snapped him right up.

Payso is a tiny boy, weighing only 11 pounds, and has a petite physique under a thick mass of black and tan wiry hair. He appears to be a mix of small terrier breeds, most likely, Yorkshire and Australian. We had Payso groomed, but left his coat natural, so that adopters could fashion whatever kind of look they like for their little pipsqueak.

Payso has a lovely temperament, and is a bit less frantic than the usual Terriers we have met. He is extremely affectionate, and has been wonderful with everyone who has handled him. He received rave reviews at our vet, and our groomer, and tolerated a lot of invasive human touch. Payso seemed to revel in the attention.

We think that Payso would do well in most environments, but due to general Terrier principles, we'd like to avoid toddlers and cats in his new home, and keep the temptation to screw up at a minimum. That's not to say that diehard Terrier folks couldn't finesse these introductions, because we have seen determination manifest miracles.

Payso would flourish in a moderately active adult home, used to typical Terrier hijinks. He is a tiny, well socialized dog, who can travel anywhere, and he seems to know when to take a nap so he's not ON all the time. He could easily join a multi-dog home, and might be a great companion for another older dog, who may have recently lost his or her companion. Payso has a healthy activity level and does require a couple of brisk leash walks each day to get his Ya Ya's out.

Payso has excellent house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot house training issues, because rescue dogs lose so much of their house training mojo during the chaotic rescue process. And, the constant presence of other dogs yet to be altered thwarts their routine even further. Since Payso came from an owner's home, he should adapt nicely to any new routine.

Payso is in excellent health and is neutered. He just had a full dental cleaning, and is vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP(distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and canine influenza. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
