PLAYDAY

Our handsome, elder statesman, Playday, has the gentle, loving temperament that could adapt to any kind of home. This sweet boy came to us from an overcrowded Animal Control facility where he spent some time, after having been caught roaming the city streets by Animal Control Officers.

Playday was a huge favorite of Shelter volunteers and staff. Even the Veterinary staff gave glowing reports of his behavior, tolerant of their poking and prodding. He joined us as soon as his stray hold was up, and he was about to go on the euthanasia list. We were thrilled to invite him into our rescue, and he has adapted beautifully to foster care.

Playday is a striking mix of Alaskan Husky and German Shepherd. He is a medium sized dog, weighing 50 pounds, with a short, flat coat that needs occasional grooming. Playday has a calm energy that allows for easy handling. Shelter vets peg him as an older adult, who is probably between seven and eight years old. He came to us with the usual Shelter kennel cough, and he had a tough time fighting the bug. In the course of diagnosing and treating his URI, chest xrays revealed quite a bit of calcification in the rib cage and shoulder areas, revealing old fractures from traumatic injury, either from human abuse or auto injury. Playday must have a heck of a story to tell, but none-the-less his personality has remained sweet, gentle and extremely loving.

Playday absolutely loves human connection and needs that unique adopter who values the quality of life over the quantity of years left. He revels in human touch, and can stand up to the affections of even the smallest child. He would be the ideal choice for first time dog owners, or for a family with kids of all ages. He could also join an adult home, and could live comfortably in either a house or apartment environment.

Playday loves other dogs and would be the ideal companion to a senior dog who has recently lost his housemate, or a younger dog, in need of a buddy. He is always calm and non-reactive, blending seamlessly into any situation. He has been the ideal foster guest, and is constantly drawn into raucous puppy play. Playday gives as good as he gets, and he absolutely loves his girlfriend, Izzy.

Playday has great house manners and is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot a few accidents during his transition to a new routine. He is in great health, has been neutered, and had a complete dental. His preoperative blood work was normal and serves as an important baseline going forward. He has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
