PLUTO

Our Pluto ain't nothin' but a hound dog! Actually, he is a double dose of scent hound. Its easy to see the characteristic Basset Hound elongated spine, and paddle feet, but, Pluto surely has some Beagle in him to explain his leggy look, and classic black and tan saddleback markings. He is a medium sized dog, weighing 42 pounds. Pluto has quite the beautiful and elegant silouette. He is suprisingly quick as he keeps pace with his active, young handler. Pluto skeedaddles at a very brisk pace, and yet is so easy to handle.

Just three years old, Pluto came to us recently from an overcrowded urban shelter, where he had been surrendered by his owners. We determined that Pluto was a failed shelter adoption, no doubt relinquished after snooty Manhattan high rise neighbors revolted at the sound of Pluto's dramatic singing voice. The Beagle howl is legendary, to be sure, and will curl the toes of most folks. But the steadfast Beagle Lover hears only the melodious tones of Pavarotti singing La Traviata. Perspective can whitewash anything.

Although his behavior ratings were excellent, and he earned himself a coveted place in the shelter adoption program, sometimes shelter staff cannot make ideal matches. Beagles, and Hounds in general, are not necessarily good apartment dogs, but seem to do well in suburban or country environments.

Pluto would be a fantastic companion to the active single, couple, or family, who enjoy the outdoors. He loves nature, and can walk for hours with his nose to the ground, savoring whatever the trail offers. Pluto also has a quiet side that seems to tap his Basset roots. He loves a leasurely afternoon nap, and makes a delightful companion on those rainy, couch potato days. Our Pluto is a fantastic companion dog, who craves human contact. The more attention he gets, the better he likes it!

Pluto loves people, and shows no stranger danger. He's a great choice for a family dog, because he will not play favorites within the family structure, so he could join an active family with kids. He has the ideal family dog temperament, and will give everyone an equal dose of Pluto love! He seems to enjoy other medium to low energy dogs, and would love a multi-dog home. We have not had him around cats, but he would probably be fine with proper introduction to dog savvy felines.

Pluto has good housemanners, and is housetrained and crate trained, although Adopters must allow for the occasional accident as Pluto transitions to a new routine. It seems that Pluto's former owners neglected his obedience training, but he has proven himself to be a quick study, and has already grasped the basics. Pluto knows all his commands and is one of our obedience superstars. He loves his training, and is extremely eager to please.

Pluto has been neutered, and has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and Canine Flu. He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick.
