POPPYHoly Guacamole! Look at those ears! Our pint sized Poppy is sportin' the grandest ear bobs we have ever seen! This adorable character came to us from an urban Animal Control facilty where he was abandoned by his owners, who cited "pet conflict," as the reason for the betrayal. |
| We introduced Poppy to other dogs carefully, assuming that he had not been well socialized, and were pleasantly surprised when he mixed in easily with a diverse group of foster dogs. Poppy is loaded with confidence and charisma, and makes his way to the front of the pack for treats and belly rubs. Poppy could easily join a multi-dog home with well trained dogs or could be happy as an only dog. Poppy has a bit of the "napoleon complex" and could get himself into trouble with much larger dogs, and we suspect that his high energy nosiness might aggravate cats. | ![]() |

Poppy was billed to us as a Chihuahua mix, but there is no mistaking the Miniature Dachshund in him. Poppy is a tiny dog, weighing only 9 pounds, and has a long, squat structure. His short legs, paddle feet and elongated spine signify his Dachshund roots, While his light tan coloring and pointed mega ears reflect the Chihuahua edge. |

In temperment, we recognize the Dachshund tenacity and sense of humor. Poppy is a natural born comedian...a busybody and gymnast who minds everybody's business with panache. Two years old, Poppy has not had much leadership or obedience work, and we can see that this clever little cutie could get himself into trouble if left to run amuck. He should not be allowed to get away with the pushy antics that some small dog owners brush off as "cute." Poppy could be an obedience star, if adopters pursue a formal course of obedience and leadership work. | ![]() |
| Poppy is a high energy, affable little guy, who would be a great choice for an active single or couple, or family with older kids, who have some high energy small dog experience. We think he might be a bit too clever for toddlers. Poppy needs a good deal of exercise and mental stimulation to keep out of mischief. | ![]() |
