PRINCE CHARLES

Up until recently, our stunning Prince Charles, led a serene, sedate life as the only dog, in a quiet home with a senior. He was dearly loved, but this 4 year old had not been very well socialized. Prince Charles's owner moved out of the country and left him with her son, who called us for help, upon learning his landlord would not allow a dog in the apartment.

The rescue process has been quite a shock to Prince Charles's system. When we first picked him up, he was extremely shy and skittish, but over the course of the last few weeks he has warmed up beautifully, in part thanks to some of our other Eskie Fosters, who have included him in their pack. He is learning how to be a dog again and enjoying the companionship of the pack.

Prince Charles is a stunning, standard sized American Eskimo Dog. At an optimal weight of 30 pounds, he is a medium sized dog. He has a beautiful, full Eskie coat, in great shape and soft to the touch, with a light undercoat and some faint biscuit markings. As Eskie lovers would expect, he does shed a good deal and blows his coat a couple times a year.

Prince Charles has a submissive temperament: he is shy and avoids situations that unnerve him. He would make an ideal companion for an active single or couple who have some Eskie experience, and have the patience to allow Prince Charles to warm up at his own pace. We don't think Prince Charles would be happy in a bustling family environment, with lots of people coming and going. He seems to prefer solitude and a one to one connection with doting humans. We think he would thrive in a multi-dog home with one or two other balanced dogs, because he seems to pick up his cues from a stable pack. He would also be fine in a feline home.

Prince Charles has done well with his obedience work and knows most of his commands. He is well on the way to becoming a Canine Good Citizen. Motivated adopters can easily take him the rest of the way. Eskies tend to relish their obedience training, and it is one of the best ways to channel their considerable intelligence, and provide much needed mental stimulation. Obedience work is a wonderful way to bond with Prince Charles, as he is both treat and praise motivated and very easy to handle.

Prince Charles has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He is in optimal health, and is neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus). He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
