RALPHIEOur big boy, Ralphie, is an arctic blast of fresh air! He had been snagged as a city stray and transported by police escort to the city pound. Ralphie's freewheelin,' ramblin' days came to a crashing halt as he wound up in a cage at a large, overcrowded Animal Control facility. After attempts were made to find his family, Ralphie, only a year and a half old, wound up on the Euthanasia list. We are gobsmacked by the sheer numbers of fantastic, adoptable dogs that find themselves in perilous straights as mere pups, so we stepped up for Ralphie, even though our rescue is bursting at the seams. In order to save Ralphie's life, we transferred him to a large boarding kennel, to bide his time until we had foster space. |
Ralphie has charmed all the vet, shelter and kennel staff who have cared for him, with his big personality and infectious charm! Shelter staff have called him a Smooth Collie mix, but, in our educated opinion, we see a cross between White German Shepherd and Yellow Labrador Retriever. Ralphie's coat is a light cream color, with some light biscuit shading. His coat is short, soft, and requires minimal grooming. Ralphie's ears try so hard to stick straight up, like the noble Shepherd, only to flop over at the tips, suggesting some floppy ear, Labrador DNA. His tail is blissfully uncropped, and is in perpetual wag mode! | ![]() |

Ralphie is an exhuberant puppy, loaded with joie de vivre and gusto. He is super high energy, and needs a good deal of exercise to work out his puppy ya yas. Ralphie is the consummate hiking and running companion and adores any outdoor activity. The more action he gets, the better. |
Ralphie would be a good fit for the active single, couple or family with older kids, who are prepared for and willing to troubleshoot basic puppy issues. Exercise is the key to managing puppy energy, but Ralphie needs more than a romp around a fenced in yard. He would benefit tremendously from a formal obedience course, as well as focussed playtime. He is a very food and praise motivated pup, and will "ace" his way to Canine Good Citizenship. Ralphie has an outgoing and friendly temperament, and really enjoys human contact. He greets strangers with a grin and a tail wag, and would enjoy the attentions of older kids. Ralphie is a big, goofy boy who, at 58 pounds, does not know his size or strength. He would knock toddlers over with hugs and kisses, but would be ideally suited for the rowdy games of older kids and teens. |

Ralphie is in great health, but slightly underweight. He could stand to put on about 5 to 6 pounds, and should fill out nicely to about 65 pounds. Ralphie has been neutered, and is vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, bordatella and canine influenza. He has been microchipped and de-wormed and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
