RINGO

Lovable Ringo came to us after his beloved owner passed away and left him a homeless orphan at the age of just 3. In short order, family members escorted Ringo to a crowded urban Animal Control facility. They must not have known the terrible risk that Ringo would face in a high kill shelter.

Despite his gentle, calm demeanor and excellent behavior evaluations, Ringo was excluded from the adoption program because he caught kennel cough, and was relegated to the ""At Risk List." So, we invited him into our rescue for some TLC.

Ringo had a tough time kicking the kennel cough, which morphed into a nasty upper respiratory infection, largely because his health was already compromised by extreme obesity. Ringo's owner had "loved" him via the "one bite for me, one bite for you" people food diet which is guaranteed to compromise a dog's health and immune system, as well has his teeth.

Weighing in at a whopping 32 pounds, Ringo was as wide as he was long. We surmised his goal weight to be 18 to 20, and we began the weight loss process with Taste of the Wild grain free kibble as well as healthy, nutrition packed treats. His weight came down pretty quickly, and we discovered atrophied muscle tone from his former inactivity. It's been almost six months now, and Ringo is down to 21 pounds, and has regained his youthful physique and muscle tone. He is lookin' svelte and is ready for a new active lifestyle.

Our shelter contacts had pegged Ringo as a Manchester Terrier mix, but we just don't see it. We do see the elongated Dachshund spine, merged with some glorious red Min Pin DNA, to give Ringo an elegant, yet sturdy structure that is less prone to back issues than a purebred Dachshund.

Ringo is a laid back, calm fellow, who seems to roll with the punches in life. He stays off to the sidelines in an active dog pack, and prefers quiet time to a lot of high energy antics. He would be well matched with an active single or couple, who enjoy leisurely walks each day. After a decent stroll, Ringo likes to curl up for a well deserved nap.

Ringo enjoys the companionship of other dogs and could easily join a multi-dog home with one or two medium to low energy dogs. We think he would be fine with dog savvy cats.

Ringo has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. He is in excellent health and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Ringo, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info.
