RORYSome lucky family is going to have the time of lives with our adorable puppy, Rory. He recently came to us from an overcrowded, chaotic animal control facility, where his owners had dumped him, just a five month old pup. Apparently the idea of having a puppy was more glamourous than the notion of raising one. |

Indeed, the "we thought we wanted a puppy, but now that he's here, he's alot of work" vibe seems to account for the vast majority of young adult dog in our nation's Shelter system. It is outrageous that a splendid boy, like Rory, could wind up at risk in a high kill shelter, facing euthanasia. He is just one of a multitude who fall through the cracks in our society of dog lovers. |
| Rory has that dopey puppy personality that will tickle the fancy of an active family, who are all on the same page about raising an older puppy. Rory is now about six months old, and has that gangly, rangey look of young dog not yet in full command of his feet. Weighing 57 pounds, Rory still has some growing to do, and it would not surprise us, if he reached the 70 pound range when full grown. |

Our Shelter contacts describe Rory as a Rottie / German Shepherd mix, but we think his black and tan markings, narrow forehead and muzzle reflect a more of a Doberman influence. Even though Rory is a mix of two powerful breeds, his nature is sweet and loving, making him the perfect family dog. Rory is very kid friendly and touchable. He craves human attention and would enjoy interacting with young children and being part of a large family. |
| The greatest challenge with Rory is shepherding him through his adolescent stage, and continuing him on a solid regimen of exercise and obedience. He is past the teething stage, and has not proven himself to be destructive, but folks who take on a young dog must be prepared to puppy proof the premises and have realistic expectations of his limitations in the realm of house training and unsupervised time at home alone. |

Rory is extremely smart, and has begun to grasp the concepts of basic obedience training. He is a dog who could go the full route to Canine Good Citizenship certification, and become a well trained family member who is welcomed everywhere. His temperament is outstanding and he is extremely friendly to everyone he meets. He has demonstrated no issues with other dogs. We think he would even fit into a feline home, although a young pup would likely chase cats in play. |
| Rory has good house manners for a youngster, and is mostly house trained and nicely crate trained. Adopters must expect to fine tune his potty routine, as he transitions to his new home. Rory is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He had one of the best Vet reactions of any dog we've had recently, as he cajoled his way through the poke and prod routine. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis.
