ROXY

Roxy has knocked our collective socks off! This stunning gray beauty, with haunting silver blue eyes, is one of the most striking dogs we have had in our rescue. Amazingly, Roxy was found braving harsh weather, abandoned by a world class schmuck, who had tied her to a park bench without food or water. Ya gotta wonder about some people.

And so, a Good Samaritan called the Animal Cops, and Roxy was escorted to the city pound, so that her schmuck owner could be tracked down in case he/she wanted Roxy back. Once due process was complete, Animal Control lifted Roxy's "stray hold" and we were able to take her into foster care.

Roxy is a lot of dog! She was a 70 pound Ingenue pup when she arrived, and shelter experts believed her to be a mix of Great Dane and Weimaraner. Just over one year old, Roxy now tips the scales at nearly 90 pounds, and has the height and grand stature of the mighty Dane, but her large head, muscular neck and physique scream Mastiff to us. She has demonstrated the athletic prowess of the popular "gray ghost" gun dog, and sports the Weinmaraner bob tail, in perpetual point mode.

Roxy is a supersized, muscular girl, with a good deal of physical strength, so while she received great behavior evaluations from her shelter handlers, we would like to place Roxy with experienced dog folks, who are up to the physical challenges of managing an exuberant large dog.

Roxy is an insecure girl, who has slowly grown into her stature, through leadership and discipline. Roxy needs a patient, gentle but firm handler, who has the time to commit to her ongoing training regimen. Roxy is not the ideal candidate for the solitude of a long work day. She needs a lifestyle where she can participate in activites and adventures.

Roxy has been a standout in our Canine Good Citizenship program, and is just about ready to qualify for certification. Her foster folks agree that she is easy to handle, and focused on her training. She is both treat and praise motivated, and is almost trained to heel off lead. This vigorous Obedience work has built Roxy's confidence, and resolved some initial anxiety issues that brewed during her shelter days.

Roxy is still quite the puppy and needs an experienced handler, who can earn her respect.  She could fit nicely into a busy, active home with older kids, who arte all on the same page about conti uing her obedience work.  Roxy is at the crossroads in life where the right human will bring out her amazing potential.  Although Roxy is gentle and loving, she may well overwhelm toddlers with her size and spirit.  Out of sheer puppy joie de vivre, Roxy loves to surprise people by jumping up to give a big kiss on the lips, but at her size, that kiss can be more shock than surprise. Her grasp of obedience basics has improved her house and stranger manners significantly.

Roxy could also join the active lifestyle of a single or couple, whose schedule permits the training and exercise of a spirited youngster. Roxy is an energetic girl, who could be the ideal running or hiking companion. She enjoys play with other dogs, and would be a happy addition to a multi-dog home. We have not had her around cats, but she would most likely chase them in spirited play.

Roxy is in excellent health and will be spayed next week. She has been vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper and has been tested negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. If you are interested in Roxy, please email Denise@Eskiesonline.com or call 720-903-0636.
